1. Check Your Mix Balance at Different Volume Levels
Mix at a moderate volume to avoid the psychoacoustic illusion that distorts your perception of frequencies at high levels. Simply put, your brain perceives some frequencies incorrectly when the volume is too high.
Occasionally listen to your mix at a low volume—if something completely "disappears," it probably lacks presence.
Turn it up for short periods to check if the lows and highs are overloaded, evaluate the background elements, and clean up unnecessary sounds.
2. Don’t Make Your Mix Too Bright or Too Dull
If you mix at high volume, you might accidentally reduce the lows and highs because they already feel full.

3. "Loudness Compensation" is a Waste of Time
Some audio devices and plugins (e.g., Sonarworks, ToneBoosters EQ) try to compensate for frequency perception at different volumes.

-8 LUFS is a good level for house music, but it depends on the reference.
5. Final Reference Check
Compare your track with professional references at different volume levels. If your track sounds worse at low volume, something is off—fix it.
