In gnostic interpretation of the Old Testament, the Demiurge (God), created the fist human being, which he later split into Adam and Eve. They existed in this paradise world, eternally blind to their own reality.
Demiurges mother, Sophia, one of the Eons, created in this world a fruit tree, containing the knowledge of good and evil. Demiurge said to his creations, that if they eat from the tree, they will die. Sophia took a form of a serpent, and descended into the material world. She told Adam and Eve, that the fruits will not bring them death, they will bring them knowledge of imperfection of their creator.
Eve was the first one to try the apple, and, as Sophia said, gained knowledge of their imperfect reality.
When the demiurge found out that his creations have disobeyed him, he went to have a little chat with the humans.
Adam exposed Eve as the first one to break the rule of the demiurge. In return, God cursed all women to be inferior to men.
