Two-time BAFTA Award-winning producer, MC, and creative Crafty 893 is back with 'Anyway', alongside grime mainstay Manga Saint Hilare. Together, they reinforce their relentless drive with sharp lyricism and production to match. They run a mockery of haters, shutting down backlash through rolling high tops and sub-bass, making their intentions known.
“Anyway is literally just a tune about how we don’t care about being overlooked. Despite any negative energy, we’re going to keep making moves.” - Crafty 893
The video shifts between the MCs as they shell verses back to back. The camera tracking the mic between shots that hint at studios and clashes. Produced by Dominic Taylor, whose credits include work with 21 Savage and Skillibeng, the visuals expertly channel the pair's tenacity with playful shade and biting delivery.
The duo are commended as the faces of a new wave "bringing grime back to the forefront" in DJ Mag’s feature, dubbed Grime 3.0. Having championed the culture since its early days, Manga and Crafty regularly intersect in and around community-led platforms such as Travs Presents crew, Balamii booth moments, and DaMetalMessiah’s digital archiving. "Working with Manga is very easy. Both times, it’s just been a matter of randomly seeing him, asking for a verse, and having him send a perfect 16-bar in about 48 hours," Crafty adds. It’s no surprise, then, that with three nominations for ‘Best Grime Act’ at the MOBO Awards, Manga Saint Hilare remains a long-standing heavyweight in the grime scene.
The track follows a string of freestyles, such as the hype-receiving Step 1 flows, and Crafty’s single Nothing Left, featured on GRM Daily, once again showcasing his irrefutably cold, cut-through ingenuity. Crafty is always searching for new ways to push his artistic boundaries. Speaking recently on Radio 1Xtra with Sian Anderson, he said, “I just like creating music, so every avenue I’m going to try and explore.”
