Uhushuhu joins the Of the Wand and the Moon show in Yerevan.

Representatives of Saint Petersburg's multifaceted drone scene and members of the Petrograd Hum Society, Uhushuhu has been active since 2014, performing regularly at festivals in Russia and beyond. Their releases appear on labels such as Zoharum, Zhelezobeton, Unline, Kultfront, and Pantheon, as well as self-released on their own label. Uhushuhu is known for its dense, immersive, beatless sound, blending electronic noise, drone loops, resonant synths, shimmering guitars, and distorted organic and industrial sounds.

Of the Wand & the Moon — это музыкальный проект бывшего участника Melodic Death / Doom Metal группы Saturnus, датского музыканта Кима Ларсена, созданный в 1998 году для исследования неофолка, дарк-фолка, экспериментальной и эмбиент-музыки.

Ранние альбомы проекта сочетают меланхоличную акустическую гитару, атмосферные синтезаторы и поэтичные, часто эзотерические тексты, вдохновленные европейскими фолк-традициями, рунической мистикой и личными размышлениями.

Первые три альбома Of the Wand and the Moon — Nighttime Nightrhymes (1999), Emptiness: Emptiness: Emptiness (2001) и Sonnenheim (2005) — сформировали фирменное звучание проекта, сделав его одним из самых уважаемых имен в жанре неофолка наряду с Death in June, Sol Invictus и Current 93.

One of Extreme Metal’s most enduring and forward-thinking forces, Rotting Christ has reached another peak in their 35 years of existence. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, Rotting Christ are filling concert halls and reaping enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as 'Aealo' (2010), 'Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), 'Rituals' (2016), ‘The Heretics’ (2019) and their newest albums Pro Xristou (Greek for Before Christ-B.C.), which is a tribute album dedicated to all last Pagan Kings and is inspired by the mighty ancient wisdom that glorifies the Before - Christ traditions. A cinematic experience that features bombastic atmospheres, mesmerizing choirs, neo-classical arrangement, use of various languages, heavy riffing and intense drumming.

Of the Wand and the Moon show in Yerevan is a very special one for us. Aside from the fact, that it's our first non rock/metal live event in 17 years of Zhesht's existence, it is also really unique in it's setting. The State Philharmonia of Armenia has hosted thousands of classical musicians, opera singers and jazz performers in its main hall, but there is even more to be found underneath...

Literally beneath the ground there is a space where zero natural light shines, with towering ceilings and massive tuf stone pillars — a majestic setting to reverberate with neofolk sounds for the first time ever. Intricately designed ambient lighting sets the tone while the volcanic stone walls absorb certain sound frequencies while reflecting others, creating a deeply immersive experience. Paired with the introspective and intimate sounds of OTWATM, this show is bound to touch everyone on their deepest level 🖤

Армянский вояж Мика Мосса

Zhesht Events неиллюзорно радует выбором артистов для концертных площадок Еревана. Благодаря их стараниям в прошедшие выходные нам посчастливилось увидеть не только две хороших группы — South of The Sun, прекрасно справившихся со своим первым концертом, и грузин Hymera, чью заряженную бешеной энергетикой фан-базу смогла обуздать лишь охрана клуба Tonelab.

Главным гостем вечера был Мик Мосс — основатель ливерпульского проекта Antimatter, стилистически напоминающего соотечественников из Anathema, филигранно экспериментирующих с прогрессивным роком и готикой. Оно и неудивительно: некоторое время напарником Мика был не кто иной, как Данкан Паттерсон — основной автор материала на ранних альбомах Anathema, заложивший также основу под их смещение в сторону более экспериментального звучания. В 2005 году его уход превратил Antimatter в one-man-band, позволив Мику Моссу пуститься в бесконечное хождение по звукам самостоятельно.

Результатом такого странствия стало сотрудничество музыканта с армянским коллективом The Beautified Project, вылившиеся в песню "Broken Smile". Вот что об этом вспоминает сам Мосс:

«У меня в голове был этот звук, и я спросил Андре [Симоняна, из The Beautified Project], сможет ли он найти мне восточный смычковый инструмент. Им оказалась кеманча. То, как звучит кеманча… ты не задерживаешься на какой-нибудь одной ноте; оно по всему гребаному шоу. Если у тебя 30-секундное соло, количество нот просто немыслимо. Я бы хотел сыграть на ней во время выступления, но на самом деле могу только просить ребят [из своей группы] браться за менее сложные партии. Это не прямолинейные песни, и я пытался раздвинуть границы того, что делаю, как можно дальше. Я преуспел… но ценой собственного здравого смысла».

Мы бесконечно рады, что связи Мика с Арменией на этом не закончились. Сожаление вызывает лишь то, что The Beautified Project выступили в качестве разогревающей группы только в Тбилиси.

Zhesht Events proudly presents an intimate evening with Of the Wand and the Moon, Majdanek Waltz and Uhushuhu in Tbilisi! 🇬🇪

Of the Wand & the Moon is a musical project of Danish musician Kim Larsen (ex. Saturnus) started in 1998 to explore neofolk, dark folk, experimental and ambient sounds. The early albums of the project blend melancholic acoustic guitar, atmospheric synths, and poetic, often esoteric lyrics, drawing inspiration from European folk traditions, runic mysticism, and personal introspection. Of the Wand and the Moon’s first 3 albums ( Nighttime Nightrhymes (1999) and Emptiness: Emptiness: Emptiness (2001) and Sonnenheim (2005)) helped define the project’s signature sound, making it one of the most revered names in neofolk alongside such heavyweights as Death in June, Sol Invictus and Current 93.

While still rooted in neofolk, The Lone Descent (2011) saw Of the Wand and the Moon shift towards a much more expansive, layered and cinematic sound, moving beyond its earlier minimalistic neofolk style to music most notably influenced by 60s & 70s singers/songwriters, citing such names as Lee Hazlewood, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg as inspirations as well as movie soundtracks of the same period. The album was received with great critical acclaim and is considered a contemporary neofolk masterpiece. The next full length effort, titled Your Love Can’t Hold This Wreath of Sorrow (2021) follows in a similar vein, but features even greater experimentation with other genres such as post-punk and electronica.

Deeply personal, intimate and sincere, Kim's sound has been shifting and evolving always forward throughout the years, invoking in equal parts feelings of warmth and desolation, love and resentment, pain and comfort, and it will eventually smother your soul... but at least the tears are free!

The show will be supported by Majdanek Waltz, veteran of Russian industrial and neofolk sound and Uhushuhu drone ambient masters!

Majdanek Waltz is a musical group founded in 2001 in Ryazan. During their 24 years of musical history they evolved from an anonymous project into one of the most influential acts on Russia’s post-industrial scene. They began with noise experiments infused with martial aesthetics, spoken word and a cavernous sound created with live instruments like guitar, bass, and viola. Over time, Majdanek Waltz shifted towards acoustic compositions, crafting intimate, somber music with tragic recitations that evoke a twilight, bleak atmosphere. Known for their mystical dark, neo and apocalyptic folk sound, they create music that is hauntingly beautiful and deeply melancholic — slow, somber and detached.

как вы наверное помните, я живу в прекрасном армянском городе Ереване. до недавних пор сюда приезжало много классных музыкантов - от старичков The Exploited до арт-поп деконструкторов Xiu Xiu, однако в последние года полтора ивенты с привозами иностранных музыкантов случаются очень редко.

и вот, наконец-то, стараниями промо-группы Zhesht Events к нам едет датский музыкант Ким Ларсен, основатель и единственный участник дарк-фолк проекта :Of The Wand & The Moon:

большой концерт музыканта пройдет 28 марта.

так что если вы живете в Ереване или собираетесь в наши края - это точно нельзя пропускать.

в конце прошлого года на Hawthorn Records у Кима в кассетном формате вышел новый релиз Black Mountain Blues тиражом в 150 копий. кассеты издавались для тура проекта в сентябре 2024ого года.

на кассете представлен один 23-минутный трек, плавно поделенный на 5 частей, стилистически варьирующийся от дарк-эмбиента до экспериментального блюза и дарк-фолка.

это очень красивая запись, плавно перетекающая из темных эмбиентных дроунов до завораживающих неоклассических картин.
