Maharashtra Contractors Claim ₹89,000 Cr Pending from Government, Threaten Legal Action
The Maharashtra Contractors Association has alleged that the state government owes them a staggering ₹89,000 crore in unpaid dues. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, the association highlighted a drastic slowdown in payment clearance rates, dropping from 40% to just 10%, particularly since the launch of pre-poll schemes like Ladki Bahin.
More than half of the pending amount, 51%, is reportedly owed by the Public Works Department (PWD), with significant dues also from the Jal Jeevan Mission, Rural Development Department, and others.
Despite writing six letters to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, the association says they’ve received no response. A final letter is expected to be sent Monday. If there's no reply, they plan to approach the courts.
