🚰 South African Government Strips White Farmer of Water Rights in Race-Based Ruling

The civil rights organisation AfriForum’s legal team today filed an appeal against the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) rejection of an application for the transfer of a black farmer’s water rights for irrigation to a white farmer.

The DWS argues that water rights previously allocated to a black farmer cannot be transferred to a white farmer because this would be contrary to the department’s transformation objectives.

By elevating race to the determining factor, white farmers are automatically discriminated against.

The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) is looking to China for cooperation as it works to realise its ambition to once again be involved in production for the nuclear fuel cycle – and to provide an entry point into the African market for small modular reactors (SMRs).

It signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), a Chinese state nuclear company, on Tuesday (8 April) during a ministerial visit to the country.

Zimbabwe issued treasury bonds worth $308 million and made small cash payments to White farmers who were dispossessed of their property 25 years ago under a state-backed land reform program.

The payments are the first under a so-called “Global Compensation Deed” signed in 2020 between the state and the former farm owners in which Zimbabwe committed to paying $3.5 billion for improvements done on the farmland.

A Land Compensation Committee has approved compensation for 740 former farm owners, with the first 378 farmers paid 1% of the total compensation value of $311 million in late March as well as receiving Treasury bonds, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said.

The payment is the latest attempt to resolve the decades-long dispute triggered by former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe encouraging veterans of the liberation war to evict farmers and their workers from their land in a bid to win support in a close-fought election in 2000. By 2002 at least seven White farmers had been killed alongside dozens of their workers, Human Rights Watch said.

That contributed to sanctions being imposed on Zimbabwean politicians by the US, UK and the European Union leading to the southern African nation’s protracted fallout with the West.

South African Police Minister Senzo Mchunu unveiled draft amendments to the Private Security Industry Regulation Act that could cripple South Africa’s private security sector:

- Handcuffs will be regulated and only be given to trained security guards after approval by the regulator.

- The security industry will no longer be allowed to use tasers, teargas, water cannons, sponge grenades, rubber bullets, or any other weapon that "may harm civilians."

- Permission to use these will require an application to the regulator submitted 7 days beforehand. When a riot breaks out today, a security company will be unable to perform crowd control.

- The security industry will be prohibited from using firearms at taxi ranks, cemeteries, stadiums, shopping malls, churches, restaurants, hospitals, schools, and more.

- Security officers will have to undergo annual physical and mental assessments.

- Semi-automatic firearms can only be used in the transportation of valuables and the protection of critical infrastructure.

- All firearms must have tracking devices attached to them

The Trump administration has thrown open the doors to white Afrikaners from South Africa, establishing a program called “Mission South Africa” to help them come to the United States as refugees, according to documents obtained by The New York Times.

Under Phase One of the program, the United States has deployed multiple teams to convert commercial office space in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, into ad hoc refugee centers, according to the documents. The teams are studying more than 8,200 requests expressing interest in resettling to the United States and have already identified 100 Afrikaners who could be approved for refugee status. The government officials have been directed to focus particularly on screening white Afrikaner farmers.

By mid-April, U.S. officials on the ground in South Africa will “propose long-term solutions, to ensure the successful implementation of the president’s vision for the dignified resettlement of eligible Afrikaner applicants,” according to one memo sent from the embassy in Pretoria to the State Department in Washington this month.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the internationalisation of the fight against calls for violence against Afrikaners and farmers, as demonstrated by the chanting of “Kill the Boer”, is a next logical step, given the clear lack of protection of Afrikaner human rights by the Constitutional Court and the South African Constitution. The South African Constitutional Court denied AfriForum's application to appeal prior rulings that determined the "Kill the Boer" chant does not constitute hate speech.

The decision upholds judgments from the Equality Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal which found the chant is not hate speech and not a call to violence. The court concluded that AfriForum’s appeal lacked reasonable prospects of success and refused the matter without hearing a single argument.

This ruling comes mere days after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the anti-white chant "Kill the Boer" incites violence.

Rubio’s statement, which came only a few days after Julius Malema sang the song on Human Rights Day, criticized South African leaders for not protecting Afrikaners and other minorities, offering U.S. support for those facing threats.

Firstly, and probably most obvious, is the fact that the world is talking about Afrikaners - this is a golden opportunity to present our case as a solution for Afrikaners, and for other conservative communities around the world. Orania must now explain our solution to all who will listen, the time is now!

Secondly, there is the matter of Afrikaners' relationship with America. Whether it is the thousands of young Afrikaners working in the USA or the huge group of Afrikaners who are already interested in resettling in the USA. What does the USA offer to Afrikaners that is attractive?

It is extremely important to know how our people think and what is important to them. Orania's leadership must devise the long-term vision of concentrated area settlement in the Northern Cape, and then Orania must be able to offer certain competitive advantages to Afrikaners to make it a preferred destination.

Thirdly, Orania's people must connect with members, supporters and others in the USA. There are more conservative Americans in some states in the USA than the total population of Afrikaners, and therefore it is also support and friendships that must be exploited.

Fourthly, there are dynamic, young, active leaders emerging in the USA who are sympathetic to Orania's cause. The influential NYYRC (New York Young Republicans Club), invited Orania Movement to act as speakers at an event specifically arranged for this purpose.

Finally, it is also important to mention that the Orania Movement and Orania Representative Council do not want to make a spectacle of all our contacts. It is important to conclude some of our appointments first, and also to respect our hosts before we give public feedback. Respect is a critically important aspect when contacts are made, and new bonds are formed. We are grateful that our supporters trust us with this.

A South African research team in Antarctica is stuck there for the next 10 months without a way to leave with a crew member who has allegedly become erratic and violent.

The South African scientists are in the Sanae IV research centre in Vesleskarvet, Queen Maud Land. The South African National Antarctic Program runs the base and the South African National Antarctic Expedition operates it.

The Sunday Times reported that a member of the team allegedly physically assaulted a member and sexually assaulted another.

South Africa is preparing a new trade offer to present to President Trump, hoping to appeal to his transactional approach to foreign policy and ease boiling tensions with Washington, a spokesman for South Africa’s president said this week.

The spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, said in an interview that South African officials are anticipating Mr. Trump will call for an end to the African Growth and Opportunity Act, a decades-old trade agreement that has been an economic boon to the 32 African nations that it includes.

One option under consideration is to increase cooperation between the two countries on gas, with the United States getting more access to gas exploration in South Africa and South Africa sourcing more of its gas from America, he said. The proposal also would include a plan for what South Africa would consider fair tariffs, he said.

While South African officials are betting that a favorable trade deal will convince Mr. Trump to work with them, serious obstacles remain.

Emma Louise Powell, a South African lawmaker who met with the Trump administration and members of Congress in Washington last week, said she had been warned South Africa should expect further punitive actions from the United States.

South African police confirmed Monday that they have opened a “treason” investigation into four individuals who are believed to be associated with Afriforum, a group that advocates for the rights and interests of Afrikaner farmers.

The Hawks, which are styled as an elite investigative force within the South African Police Services (SAPS), confirmed that they were investigating four individuals after accusations had been made by South African political parties.

Afriforum and the Solidarity trade union, which also primarily represents Afrikaners, have advocated for the interests and views of their members and constituents, not just in South Africa but in Washington, DC.

Those opposed to their views — including supporters of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party — have accused the two groups of fomenting opposition to South Africa by President Donald Trump, who recently cut aid to the country (and others).

While some members of the South African government have acknowledged that Afriforum and Solidarity are merely exercising the free speech that is guaranteed by the South African constitution’s Bill of Rights, the extremist Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), led by the staunchly anti-white racist Julius Malema, said last week that their advocacy was “treasonous.”

The United States' chargé d'affaires in South Africa, Dana Brown, has resigned from the US State Department with immediate effect, according to several sources.

A chargé d'affaires is second in command to an ambassador.

US President Donald Trump's new administration is yet to appoint an ambassador to replace Reuben Brigety, who resigned in January in accordance with standard procedure during a change of a presidential administration.

"I don’t understand why South African media keep on referring to this as a 'misinformation campaign.' It is not. It is a 'disinformation campaign.'"

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa attacked U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday in an article in which he criticized the U.S. for its sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), and also viciously attacked Israel.

The article comes less than two weeks after Trump issued an executive order in which he cut off aid to South Africa, and offered asylum to Afrikaner farmers, listing among the reasons: the fact that “South Africa has taken aggressive positions towards the United States and its allies, including accusing Israel, not Hamas, of genocide in the International Court of Justice.”

Ramaphosa’s article is a direct violation of South Africa’s obligations under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a trade deal under which the U.S. gives preferential access to its markets to certain African countries.

Ramaphosa appears to have decided on confrontation with Trump, rather than compromise.
