A Week Before The “Ceasefire” in Ukraine

The week leading up to Russia’s announced “Easter ceasefire” was yet another bloody manifestation of colonial violence.

In Sumy, 35 were killed and 117 were injured. In Kharkiv, 114 wounded. In Kherson, 2 were killed, and in Odesa, 8 were injured. These are not frontline statistics — they are civilians, deliberately targeted during a so-called “holy” week.

On April 19, the Russian state ceremoniously declared an “Easter ceasefire,” supposedly out of respect for religion. But before that, heavy shelling. And most likely, after more attacks. This isn’t about peace. It’s about control.

Using religious holidays in times of war is a classic authoritarian tactic: to pose as a “spiritual power,” to cloak invasion in the appearance of mercy. The Kremlin didn’t choose Easter for its sacred meaning — it chose it because it’s a convenient tool. Just another ritual in a long game of narrative manipulation.

These are imperial practices: juggling faith, civilian suffering, and symbolic gestures to hold the upper hand in perception. The war doesn’t pause — it simply changes costume.

We speak to our comrades across the world: don’t be misled by cynical declarations of “truce.” Easter ceasefire is not spirituality. It’s propaganda in a priest’s robe.

True solidarity means calling things by their name — even when it’s uncomfortable. And refusing to leave any room for new forms of imperialism.

Тиждень перед “припиненням вогню” в Україні

Тиждень перед оголошеним Росією «великоднього припинення вогню» був ще одним кривавим проявом колоніального насильства.

У Сумах — 35 загиблих і 117 поранених. У Харкові — 114 постраждалих. У Херсоні — 2 загиблих, в Одесі — 8 постраждалих. Це не статистика фронту — це звичайні цивільні, які стали мішенню під час «святого» тижня.

19 квітня російська держава урочисто оголошує “припинення вогню на Великдень” — мовляв, із поваги до релігії. Але ще до того — шквальні обстріли, і, скоріш за все, одразу після — нові удари. Це не про мир. Це — про контроль.

Використання релігійних свят у війні — класична стратегія авторитарної влади: показати себе “духовною силою”, прикрити загарбницькі амбіції імітацією милосердя. Кремль обрав Великдень не через святість, а тому, що це — зручний інструмент. Черговий ритуал у великій грі з підміною понять.

Це і є імперські практики: жонглювати вірою, жертвами, публічними жестами, щоб тримати інформаційну ініціативу. Війна не зупиняється — вона просто тимчасово переодягається.

Ми звертаємось до наших товаришів у світі: не дайте замилити очі цинічними заявами про “перемир’я”. Великоднє перемир’я — це не духовність. Це — пропаганда в рясі.

Справжня солідарність — це називати речі своїми іменами, навіть коли це незручно. І не залишати жодного простору для нових форм імперіалізму.

To Remember Is To Fight

Yesterday, comrades from Prague, Stockholm, Potsdam, Dresden, and other cities gathered to keep and cultivate the memory of Cooper Andrews, Dmitry Petrov, and Finbar Kafferkey.

Fighting for the right cause often implies sacrifice. Hevale, a research media project about the Near East and Kurdistan, founded by Dmitry Petrov, wrote a piece on this topic, in which they described the Northeast Syrian tradition of remembering the fallen. 

Every month in the region, events are held to honour their memory. People share stories about perished comrades, their lives, and their devotion to the mutual cause. It signifies the importance not only of grieving, but also of carrying on the struggle for our shared bright future.

“But it is also a responsibility: by joining the struggle, we commit ourselves to continuing the work of those who died along the way. Our task is to take the banner of the revolution from their hands and bring closer the peace for which they fought,” they say.

We join their statement and agree that passing on the knowledge about fallen comrades and continuing the fight with active remembrance is something we need to cultivate within the community and turn into regular practice. It brings us and the people around us closer, it gives motivation, and it teaches us to cherish and make use of accumulated collective and individual experiences.

We encourage you, if you have such an opportunity, to talk to those who knew Cooper Andrews, Dmitry Petrov, Finbar Kafferkey, and others who gave their lives in this struggle. Read their stories and pass them on to others.

We remember their struggle and carry it on.

Учора товариші з Праги, Стокгольма, Потсдама, Дрездена та інших міст зібралися, щоб зберегти й плекати пам’ять про Купера Ендрюса, Дмитра Петрова та Фінбара Кафферкі.

Боротьба за справедливу справу часто передбачає жертви. Hevale — дослідницький медіапроєкт про Близький Схід і Курдистан, заснований Дмитром Петровим, — написав матеріал на цю тему, в якому описав традицію вшанування полеглих у Північно-Східній Сирії.

 Щомісяця в регіоні проводяться заходи на їхню честь: люди діляться спогадами про загиблих товаришів, їхні життя та відданість спільній справі. Це підкреслює важливість не лише жалоби, а й продовження боротьби за наше спільне світле майбутнє.

🏴Today has been 2 years since our three comrades, Cooper Andrews, Finbar Cafferkey and Dimitri Petrov, are missing in Action after participating in a battle near Bakhmut on the infamous “road of life”.

On this day, comrades and friends worldwide are holding events and commemorations. Of course, we are as well gathering to talk about them and remember why they were fighting and what we can learn from their experience.

✊Finbar was one of the comrades who brought us closer understanding of the Rojava struggle, and he was sharing his experience here with us. Of course, every struggle has its own cultural and geographical particularities and translation is made by people acting together to bring paths closer. 

🤝Dima, with his experience in russia for the last decades, helped a lot in bringing movements together in Ukraine, russia, Europe and until Syria. We are still discovering in what ways his influence has shaped our struggle here, and we will respect his memory and work in the present and future.

🖤Cooper came here with a will particular to him and his experience of black autonomy in the US. His friends from the Rhizome House in Cleveland are building a workshop to remind generations of new activists of his path. The links he created by coming here between movements are something we continue to develop. In the situation today with Trump and the fascisation of the society there today, Cooper’s mark is undeniable in developing the internationalist struggles of the present. 

All of them were highly respected and active friends and comrades, our role is to continue their work and share the memory of their lives and yes, their joy in the struggles where they participated. The relations created by each of them here are alive and we will cherish this in the continuity of the fight for freedom, autonomy, mutual aid and creating the conditions where each participant of the struggle can take the piece of power that ultimately will become our common strength to destroy what destroys us.

Цього дня товариші й друзі по всьому світу проводять пам’ятні  заходи та вшанування. Ми також збираємось, щоби згадати Купера, Фінбара й Дмитра, поговорити, за що вони боролися, і чого ми можемо навчитися з їхнього досвіду.

We’re back to our series of interviews with fighters about injuries and traumas — things in reality of war, quite regular, even to be expected, if not normalised in the military.

The guest of this interview is our comrade, a volunteer from Belarus, callsign Salam. He draws attention to the problem of normalisation of common injuries and how this routine attitude can lead to some serious consequences. With dark humour and self-criticism, Salam shares his personal observations.

On December 8th 2024, Bashar al-Assad boarded a Russian military plane and flew away into exile. His hasty, ignoble retreat marked the surreal culmination of the most brutal and bloody struggle of the Arab Spring. The fulfilment of a revolutionary demand scrawled by children on the walls of Daraa nearly fourteen years ago: الشعب يريد إسقاط النظام // people want the fall of the regime.

Humanitarian mission to the Ukrainian South 🏴

Recently, Solidarity Collectives made a joint trip with Eco Platform to the Vuhlyk (ua Charcoal) shelter. South greeted us with vast landscapes and steppe wind, escorting us to our destination.

Vuhlyk is an animal shelter with a long history and has a few branches near Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Kherson. The branch that we visited sits on the outskirts of the village and specialises mainly in horses, though it has other inhabitants: goats, ponies, donkeys, dogs and cats.

We were welcomed in by the workers who were unloading hay brought by other volunteers. As for our part, we brought an aid cart: several bags of dog food, vegetables, fruits, medicines for horses, and fuel for generators to ensure access to electricity. Shelter has two stables, one of which is in need of repair, meanwhile, the animal population is constantly growing.

One of the workers who has for many years taken care of the wards happily showed us around and introduced us to the animals. They joyfully interacted with us and eagerly tasted the sugar we brought. The volunteer also told us about hardships that the shelter faces and stories of the saved animals and the individualities of each of them. Some were bought out just before being sent to butchers, others saved from the frontline territories or simply left by their owners. Stories are diverse, but all of them found their home at Vuhlyk.

The shelter needs help, and despite conditions that are harder to change — war, occupation, shortage of workers and trained veterinarians there are ways to do so. Provide food, medicine, and proper care of its inhabitants. Vuhlyk exists thanks to donations and volunteer support. We agreed to support their shelter and provide what’s necessary. Гуманітарна місія на Півдні 🏴

Нещодавно відбулася спільна поїздка Екологічної Платформи за підтримки Колективів Солідарності до притулку «Вуглик». Південь зустрічав неосяжними просторами та степовим вітром, що проводжав нас до самого місця призначення. 

«Вуглик» — притулок для тварин, що має довгу історію та існує у декількох філіях біля Дніпра, Миколаєва та Херсона. Філія, до якої ми завітали, розташована на околицях села та спеціалізується переважно на конях, але також має інших мешканців: кіз, поні, віслюків, собак і котів. 

По приїзду нас зустріли працівники, які вивантажували сіно, передане іншими волонтерами. Ми, зі свого боку, передали нашу тачанку допомоги: кілька мішків корму для собак, овочі, фрукти, ліки для коней, а також паливо для генераторів, щоб забезпечити доступ до електроживлення. Притулок має дві стайні, одна з яких потребує ремонту, в той час як його населення постійно збільшується.

Працівник притулку, який вже багато років опікується місцевими мешканцями, радо провів для нас екскурсію та познайомив з тваринами, що із задоволенням взаємодіяли з нами та смакували привезений цукор. Також він розповів про виклики, з якими стикається притулок, про історії врятованих тварин та особливості кожного. Деяких тварин викуповували безпосередньо перед відправкою до м’ясників, деяких — вивезли з лінії бойових дій, а деяких покинули господарі. Історії різні, але всі вони знайшли свою врятовану долю у «Вуглику».

Притулок потребує допомоги, і окрім обставин, на які повпливати важче — війна, окупація, нестача працівників і досвідчених ветеринарів, є те, чим ми можемо зарадити: забезпечення харчуванням, лікуванням та належним доглядом усіх його мешканців. «Вуглик» існує завдяки пожертвам та волонтерській допомозі. Домовилися, що й надалі будемо підтримувати притулок і надавати все необхідне. Ви також можете нам в цьому допомогти.

On April 13, Russia once again attacked Ukrainian cities — once again killing dozens of civilians: women, children, men, the elderly.

In Sumy, 32 civilians were killed. Another 84 were injured.

In Odesa, a Shahed kamikaze drone launched by Russia fell near an anarchist squat — less than 20 meters from the building.

None of our comrades were harmed, but the danger came extremely close.

This is not a “military conflict” or a “geopolitical stage.” This is deliberate terror against civilians.

And the victims of this war are ordinary people.

We, from the Solidarity Collectives, express our deepest condolences to the families of those killed.

We call on the international anti-authoritarian community: do not remain silent.

📅 April 11th: The International Day of Liberation of the Nazi concentration camps

Today we remember the millions of people imprisoned and murdered by the Nazi regime — Jews, Roma, political prisoners, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, prisoners of war, and civilians.

It’s also important to remember that anarchism was outlawed in Nazi Germany for 12 years — from 1933 to 1945. Members of anarchist groups were arrested, murdered, or sent to death camps.

But this isn’t just about the past.

More than 8,000 Ukrainians — both civilians and soldiers — are still held in Russian captivity.
Many have been imprisoned for over a year with no contact with the outside world. Numerous captives have died as a result of torture, lack of medical care, or executions. Stories of abuse, humiliation, and denial of treatment are an everyday reality.

On March 4th, the international human rights organization Amnesty International published a report titled “A deafening silence: Ukrainians held incommunicado, forcibly disappeared and tortured in Russian captivity” According to their findings, in 2024 alone, there were over 109 documented executions of Ukrainian POWs and widespread use of torture.

Russian authorities are deliberately denying international organizations access to Ukrainian prisoners, effectively placing them outside the protection of international law. Out of 3,767 prisoners returned to Ukraine, every fourth was someone previously listed as missing or whose captivity had never been confirmed. These people were abducted, disappeared without a trace — and only now do we know they are alive.

Today, Solidarity Collectives also stand with the community of Druzhkivka, which gave shelter to many survivors of Nazi concentration camps. Those who once survived fascism now find themselves under fire again — Druzhkivka is regularly shelled by Russian forces.

We remember history, and we see how it repeats itself.
Our demand remains unchanged: free all prisoners of war and civilian hostages.

Silence kills — solidarity saves.

Сьогодні ми згадуємо мільйони людей, ув’язнених і знищених нацистським режимом — євреїв, ромів, політв'язнів, ЛГБТКІА+ персон, людей з інвалідністю, військовополонених і цивільних.

Не зайвим буде нагадати, що й анархізм у Нацистській Німеччині був поза законом цілих 12 років — з 1933 по 1945. Учасників анархістських груп арештовували, вбивали або відправляли у табори смерті.

Але це не лише про минуле.

Понад 8 тисяч українців, цивільних та військових, досі перебувають у російському полоні. Багато з них — понад рік без жодного зв’язку із зовнішнім світом. Чимало полонених загинули — внаслідок катувань, нестачі медичної допомоги або страт. Історії про тортури, знущання та відмову в лікуванні — щоденна реальність.

Четвертого березня міжнародна правозахисна організація Amnesty International презентувала звіт «Оглушлива тиша. Насильницькі зникнення, утримання інкомунікадо та катування українських полонених Росією». За їхніми даними лише за 2024 рік зафіксовано понад 109 страт українських військових у полоні та системні катування.

Російська влада свідомо не надає міжнародним організаціям доступу до українських військовополонених, позбавляючи їх захисту міжнародного права. Із 3767 полонених, повернених в Україну, кожен четвертий — це людина, яку вважали зниклою безвісти або взагалі не мали підтвердження, що вона в полоні. Ці люди були викрадені, зникли без сліду, і тільки тепер ми дізналися, що вони живі.

Сьогодні «Колективи Солідарності» підтримують Дружківську громаду, що прихистила багатьох людей, які пережили нацистські концтабори. Ті, хто вижив тепер знову під вогнем — Дружківку регулярно обстрілюють російські війська.

Пам’ятаємо історію — і бачимо, як вона повторюється.

Наша вимога незмінна: звільнити всіх військовополонених і заручників.

Мовчання вбиває — солідарність рятує.

Among other things, Maksym tirelessly reminds us that we shouldn’t forget about those in captivity, talk about them and never stop fighting for their freedom. Free Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Iskra Zhuravlov

Three years ago, Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Zhuravlov were captured. Their family, friends and colleagues kept it under the radar until recently, fearing for the guys’ wellbeing and in the hope of a potential prisoner exchange. But three years without any news or a change is too much. So we’re starting an open campaign.

Denys is Crimean IDP, a publicist, and a political scientist. He was among those helping internally displaced people, organised events and was a member of the union Priama Diia (Direct Action). Vlad, his comrade and brother-in-arms, had served as a marine since 2017. They were fighting for Mariupol as a part of the 501 Battalion. It was there they were captured.

For the last two years, Denys has been placed in solitary confinement in Detention Center No. 2 in the city of Kineshma (Ivanovo region, Russia). During three months in 2024, he wasn’t being properly fed. This poses a direct threat to his life. Vlad is also in russian captivity. We don’t have direct information about the conditions he’s in, but according to the eyewitnesses of former prisoners, we’re talking tortures, humiliation and constant pressure.

We, as a collective, hadn’t worked with Denys and Vlad before their capture. But those who knew them personally remember them as decent, empathetic and reliable friends. It is important to support them now, as three years of imprisonment is exhausting them mentally and physically.

We call on you to stand in solidarity. Here’s how you can help:

-Sign a petition to free Denys and Vlad

-Write them letters

-Organise an event on writing letters for POWs in your city, group or community

-Organise online meetings with those who know the guys personally. Contact us, and we’ll help facilitate it

Свободу Денису Мацолі та Владиславу Іскрі Журавльову

Три роки тому до полону потрапили Денис Мацола та Владислав Журавльов. Увесь цей час друзі, близькі та колеги не повідомляли публічно про їхню ситуацію, побоюючись за безпеку хлопців та можливість обміну. Але три роки без новин і змін — це занадто. Тому ми починаємо відкриту кампанію.

Денис — кримський переселенець, публіцист, політолог, один із тих, хто займався допомогою переселенцям, організовував події, був учасником профспілки «Пряма Дія». Влад — його товариш і побратим, служив у морській піхоті з 2017 року. Вони обороняли Маріуполь у складі 501-го батальйону. Там їх і захопили в полон.

Протягом останніх двох років Денис перебуває в одиночній камері у СІЗО №2 міста Кінешма (Іванівська область, РФ). У 2024 році його майже три місяці не годували належним чином. Це створює пряму загрозу його життю. Влад також у російському полоні. Ми не маємо точного уявлення про умови, але за загальними свідченнями колишніх полонених — мова йде про тортури, приниження і постійний тиск.

Ми, як колектив, на жаль, не працювали з Денисом і Владом до полону. Але ті, хто знав їх особисто, згадують їх як чесних, чуйних, надійних товаришів. Важливо підтримати їх зараз — коли три роки позбавлення волі виснажують фізично й морально.

Ми закликаємо вас до солідарності. Що можна зробити:

-Підпишіть петицію про визволення хлопців

-Пишіть листи Денису та Владу

-Організуйте подію з написання листів у своєму місті, колі, спільноті

-Проведіть онлайн-зустріч із тими, хто знає хлопців особисто, звертайтеся до нас ми допоможемо організувати зустріч!
