Around the world, the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer. What is the cause of this? What solutions are there to tackle it?

Wealth inequality has become a controversial topic as the gap between the rich and the poor is widening. Among a variety of reasons, the main one is the difference in quality of life, which usually determines if an individual commits a crime or not. To solve these issues, governing bodies should present the poor with more opportunities.

One way to explain why poor people cannot elevate their social standing is the lack of opportunities, which, in turn, compromises quality of life in particular areas. In Brazil, for example, certain areas called favelas lack proper education, meaning young locals cannot learn in a classroom on a consistent basis. Poverty and high population density in these areas also make life considerably worse, leaving no room for improvement, both on a personal and a societal level. Favelas are one of many examples showing that quality of life is highly important in determining economic success or its’ lack.

With regard to solutions, the only sustainable way to assist the poor is by providing them with necessary opportunities for growth. This could mean dealing with unregulated urbanization, crime rates, and poor education. In fact, eliminating any informality related to crime could help locals live a safer life. Serious punishments such as longer prison sentences for criminals should be considered. As for education, access to classroom learning with sufficient materials could make a huge difference, too.

In conclusion, it is true that low quality of life is what creates boundaries for growth, keeping poor people poor. With more safety and better education, as explained above, people can find a way to improve their economic condition.
