📘 Grammar Tip of the Day

✨ “There,” “Their,” and “They’re”

There – Refers to a place or position
🔹 The books are over there.

Their – Shows possession (belongs to them)
🔹 Their house is beautiful.

They’re – Contraction of they are
🔹 They’re going to the market.

Quick Trick:
If you can say “they are”, use they’re. If it’s about owning something, use their. For location, use there.

Double TAP ❤️ if you’re never mixing these up again!

Word of the Day: Initiative

Definition:
Taking the first step before someone asks you to.
(It’s all about being proactive and showing leadership—even in small things.)

Examples:

1. “Priya really took *initiative* by organizing the team meeting before the manager even asked.”

2. “If you want to grow here, showing *initiative* will definitely get you noticed.”

Tip to Remember:
Think: “Don’t wait—initiate!”
If you see something that needs to be done, just do it (within reason, of course). That’s initiative in action.

Common Mistake:
Don’t say “take an initiative” unless you're talking about a specific project.
✅ Correct: “He took initiative.”
❌ Wrong: “He took an initiative.”

React with a '❤️' if you found this helpful

Have a great day!

☕️ Why "cafetière" in the UK?
Cultural influence: British English often keeps French words for food, drink, and dining (like restaurant, menu, à la carte).

It sounds more refined or continental – British cafés and homes often prefer using terms that sound stylish or European.

French origin: The device was originally designed in France, and “cafetière” literally means “coffee pot”.

🗺 In comparison:
🇬🇧 UK: I’ll make it in the cafetière.
🇺🇸 US: I’ll make it in the French press.

🟢 She was interested in the movie.
✅ Use -ing for things (What causes the feeling)

😕🤕 Verb confusion🤕😕
(Know, Learn, Study and take)

💎 know is used to show that you have memorized something or that you are certain of something :
🔅I know all of the irregular verbs.

▪️know described a state, not an activity ( not I'm trying to know my irregular verbs. )

▪️we can't use it in the continuous form (not I'm knowing my irregular verbs.)
💎 Learn describes an activity.
We learn facts when we try to memorize them.
🔅I am learning irregular verbs for the test.

▪️we can also learn a skill:
🔅I'm learning to play the piano.

▪️we can't use learn by itself ( not I'm learning for the test. )

💎 Study is usually used to talk about a whole subject area rather than individual skills or facts:
🔅my daughter is studying economics at university. (not I am studying how to play the piano. )

▪️We can use study by itself:
🔅I'm studying for the test on Friday

‼️Note that we can say learn about not study about:
🔅We are learning about World War I this term.
(not we are studying about)
💎 Take can be be used in a similar way to study to refer to subject area :
🔅I am taking a course in Marketing.

▪️it's also used to refer to the individual subjects within a course :
🔅I have to take at least 3 marketing subjects to get the diploma.

Grammar Tip of the Day:
Confusing Verb Tenses: “I did” vs. “I have done”

“I did” = Simple Past (specific time in the past)
“I have done” = Present Perfect (no specific time; still relevant now)

Examples:
• I did my homework last night. (Past action, time mentioned)
• I have done my homework. (Past action, but time is not mentioned — result matters now)

Use “have done” when you’re talking about life experience, recent actions, or results that affect the present.

📒One tongue is enough for a woman

📖Meaning

Some people think that women talk too much. If they already talk too much, they don't need another tongue. One tongue is sufficient (but see Origin below).

What does ditto mean?

◻️Same

Ditto is a popular term used to say "same here" or "agreed" in response to a question, statement, or opinion. It may be spoken out loud or used while texting or chatting online.
Ditto is a convenient way to say that you completely agree with someone, which is convenient when time is short or do you want to text a long explanation. 🌴 SLANG 🌴
✔️ Bog-standard

📚British. Something that is "bog-standard" is completely ordinary with no frills, embellishments, or add-ons.

Its origins are somewhat unclear, but a "bog" is another word for a toilet in British slang, adding to the connotations that something "bog-standard" is unglamorous and unspecial.

〰🦋〰

〰🌸 "How was the hostel?" "Oh, nothing exciting to report. Just your bog-standard dorm, really."
