European weapons in Sudan: A €50 million Emirati contract
Despite EU arms embargoes, European-made mortar bombs from Bulgaria were detected in Sudan.
The bombs were manufactured by Dunarit. The UAE army was the official buyer, but documents reveal shady re-export links.
• Among the 105,000 mortar bombs worth €50 million, 15,000 x 81mm, 2,780 x 60mm, 30,000 x 82mm and 11,464 x 120mm mortar bombs were shipped in January-February 2020.
• Bulgarian ARM-BG Ltd. and the UAE's International Golden Group were involved.
Suspicious detail:
ARM-BG had only 4 employees, its revenue rose from $1 million in 2018 to $106 million in 2020 and fell to $6 million in 2021.
The UAE firm International Golden Group, known for illegal arms deals in the past, may have channelled these shipments.
