A divided federal appeals court panel on Friday temporarily halted U.S. District Judge James Boasberg’s contempt proceedings against the Trump administration over its deportation flights to El Salvador last month.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit indicated its order is intended to provide “sufficient opportunity” for the court to consider the government’s appeal and “should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits of that motion.”

Friday’s D.C. Circuit decision came down moments after Boasberg concluded an emergency hearing on a new request from the ACLU to block what it described as a fresh round of deportation flights to El Salvador, where the judge explained that he lacked authority to intervene.

🥴The faculty senates in the Big Ten Academic Alliance are creating a “mutual defense compact” to fight against President Trump’s ongoing attacks on higher education.

The faculty senate of Rutgers University began the initiative, passing a resolution April 6 to establish the compact among the Big Ten’s 18 universities.

The resolution says it is in response to the Trump administration’s “legal, financial and political” attacks on academic freedom and the missions of universities.

Rutgers’s resolution has since been joined by at least four faculty senates at other Big Ten schools, with Michigan State University becoming the latest Tuesday.

In the Rutgers resolution, it says schools that participate should be willing to make legal counsel, experts and public affairs offices available to any institution that is facing pressure from the Trump administration.

A fund would also be created to provide “immediate and strategic support” to universities.

😆🔥New York City Mayor Eric Adams delivered a diatribe against perceived critics and the media in a speech Friday morning at the African American Mayors Association, warning politicians in attendance a similar fate could befall them.

“Particularly if you are the first or second Black mayor, you inherit those who are part of an institution who say: ‘We are going to wait you out,’” said the mayor, referring to city bureaucrats he believes are deliberately sabotaging his agenda. “You inherit those who have their own agenda, who have long relationships with the media that they can leak and slip information and make calls on you.”

In his speech, Adams accused social service providers of relishing the poverty and poor education in low-income communities because it provided them with lucrative municipal contracts. And he said he was criticized — by whom, it was unclear — for hiring a diverse set of top aides.

The mayor went on to lambaste critics who have called the city chaotic despite his accomplishments that he says include Covid recovery, managing the massive influx of asylum-seekers and instilling confidence in bond rating agencies through sound fiscal management.

The mayor’s dyspeptic speech also quoted late comedian Joan Rivers’ signature line, “Can we talk?,” and contained allusions to the “deep state,” a theory that longtime government employees undermine elected officials they are supposed to serve.

Adams has begun to refer to the so-called deep state since promoting “Government Gangsters,” a book by FBI Director Kash Patel.

State Farm, the insurance company most exposed to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, announced Friday that it had agreed to pay out 65% of the value of personal property claims before requiring itemization.

The company made the announcement after meeting with Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions Ric Grenell, who has been President Donald Trump’s representative in California during the rebuilding effort.

Grenell posted on X earlier this week about his discussions with State Farm:

The Florida State University dining manager and his boss who was in town for a visit were both killed when a gunman opened fire.

Aramark Collegiate Hospitality regional vice president Tiru Chabba and FSU dining coordinator Robert Morales were gunned down at the Tallahassee campus on Thursday.

FSU student Phoenix Ikner, 20, wounded six others in his rampage through the university before he was shot and arrested by police.

Chabba, 45, lived in Simpsonville, South Carolina, and managed the Southeast region for the division of Aramark that provides catering to college campuses.

He was visiting FSU for meetings with staff and university officials and in the wrong place at the wrong time when Ikner opened fire.

Chabba worked for Aramark for more than 25 years, working his way up to his high-level position in October 2022.

NY Times - so time will tell if this is true: The acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service is being replaced after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent complained to President Trump that the latest leader of the agency had been installed without his knowledge and at the behest of billionaire Elon Musk, according to five people with knowledge of the change and the sensitive discussions that precipitated it.

Mr. Bessent believed that Mr. Musk had done an end run around him to get Gary Shapley installed as the interim head of the I.R.S., even though the tax collection agency reports to Mr. Bessent.

More details are emerging Friday about Florida State University shooting suspect Phoenix Ikner as law enforcement are trying to piece together what motivated the 20-year-old student to allegedly open fire at his school, killing two and wounding six.

Months before the shooting, Ikner was quoted in an FSU student newspaper article about anti-Trump protests at the school and was identified as a political science major, according to WFLA.

The article was later updated to say "An earlier version of this article included a quote from the gunman in the April 17 shooting at FSU and was removed at the decision of our editors to maintain ethical journalistic standards and avoid amplifying the voice of an individual responsible for violence."

Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil also said Ikner "has been steeped in the Leon County Sheriff’s Office family, engaged in a number of training programs that we have," according to The Associated Press. "So it’s not a surprise to us that he had access to weapons."

The two people who were killed were not FSU students, according to authorities, who believe that the suspect acted alone.

One-third of fires responded to by the Los Angeles Fire Department over the last six years involve the homeless, according to a newly released department memo.

The memo found rubbish fires — half of which involve the homeless — became the department’s top service call type in 2024 and said falling LAFD staffing and rising homeless dispatch volume leave the department overextended.

The report says that while homeless individuals make up just 1.2% of LA’s population, they are responsible for 12% of LAFD emergency medical services incidents and 33% of fires. This means compared to other people in Los Angeles, homeless people are 10 times more likely to use EMS services and 28 times more likely to be “involved” in a fire — all at taxpayers’ expense.

LAFD says it believes these numbers understate the number of homeless-related fires and medical emergencies it responds to, meaning the costs are likely even higher.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Thursday that his state would due the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) over cuts to the federal AmeriCorps volunteer program.

AmeriCorps was established by President Bill Clinton to provide volunteer opportunities on American soil (the Peace Corps, established under President John F. Kennedy, focuses on volunteer service abroad).

Elon Musk’s DOGE made cuts to the program this week, after half of AmeriCorps’ 600 employees had already accepted a voluntary severance package. Many volunteers across the nation were also let go from the agency.

Newsom claimed that AmeriCorps volunteers were essential to the response to recent California wildfires.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signaled a potential end to the tit-for-tat tariff hikes between the U.S. and China that shocked markets, and that a deal over the fate of social media platform TikTok may have to wait.

🔥President Trump has appointed Fox News host Mark Levin and a host of others to lead his “revamped” Homeland Security Advisory Council.

“I am proud to announce the formation of my revamped Homeland Security Advisory Council [HSAC], which is comprised of Top Experts in their field, who are highly respected by their peers,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Thursday.

Levin, who is the host of Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin”, will be joined by ex-NYPD detective Bo Dietl, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Florida state Sen. Joseph Gruters.

A federal judge on Thursday issued new restrictions on Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, extending a ban on its access to Americans' personal data in Social Security Administration systems.

U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander temporarily blocked Musk and DOGE from accessing American's personal data in the SSA system last month, but the ban was set to expire Thursday, per Reuters.

The Trump administration had failed to prove why DOGE needed "unprecedented, unfettered access to virtually SSA's entire data systems in order to accomplish" its goals, Hollander wrote.

Meanwhile, the labor unions and advocacy group that had brought the lawsuit against DOGE had succeeded in showing "that their members will suffer irreparable harm in the absence of a preliminary injunction," she wrote.

‼️President Donald Trump will walk away from trying to broker a Russia-Ukraine peace deal within days unless there are clear signs that a deal can be done, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday.

“We’re not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end. So we need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks,” Rubio said in Paris after meeting European and Ukrainian leaders.

“The president feels very strongly about that. He has dedicated a lot of time and energy to this … this is important, but there are a lot of other really important things going on that deserves just as much, if not more attention.”

Rubio’s warning came amid signs of some progress in US talks with Ukraine.

The document highlights the confrontation in Lexington at dawn on April 19, 1775, when 77 American minutemen, led by Captain John Parker, stood against British troops. The resulting gunfire left eight Americans dead—the first casualties in the fight for American independence.

We often talk about kayfabe, and its’ prevalence on the world stage.

I’ve often drawn connections between President Trump, his relationship to Vince McMahon, and his time in the WWE.

Linda McMahon is again serving in President Trump’s administration. Having also done so in his first term.

We saw The Undertaker, Kane, and even Stone Cold Steve Austin come out in support of President Trump. These 3 were arguably the biggest stars in the WWE in the 90’s save for The Rock.

We also often talk about the culture war, in which, pro wrestling - especially its fanbase - had become pretty left leaning and woke.

Is the fanbase as large as the NFL, or NBA? No. But it is still a very large fanbase, and a decent swath of society that still must be snapped out of their slumber.

The WWE is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Worth billions of dollars.

As an example: Wrestle Mania weekend rivals many of the nation’s other largest sporting events - including the Super Bowl.

Recently we saw Paul Levesque, also known as “Triple H” - the CEO of WWE in the crowd with Dan Bongino and President Trump at a UFC fight.

Roman Reigns is the face of the WWE, and has been for the last decade.

He is also related to Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and is a member of the legendary Anoa’i family. A family which wrestlers such as Rocky Johnson, Rikishi, The Rock, Umaga, The Usos and many more came from.

Recently, he did an interview with Vanity Fair, in which he admitted to being a Trump supporter despite being a registered Democrat.

This? This is EXACTLY what we need to bring people over to our side.

Roman Reigns, the face of the WWE admitting that he is a Trump supporter is an absolutely huge win in the culture war.

ESPECIALLY amongst 18-24 year olds. A demographic we desperately need.

Like it or not, pro-wrestling may have, and very well may be playing a way bigger role in saving the country than we realize.

The Trump administration threatened to revoke Harvard University's eligibility to host foreign students, tightening its squeeze on the school after campus leadership refused to cave in to its demands.

The heightened pressure comes after the Trump administration cut $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to the university amid a broader campaign against elite higher education institutions.

Trump said earlier this week that Harvard should lose its tax exempt status, accusing the Ivy League school of pushing politics and ideology.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem warned Harvard that its certification to enroll foreign students is "contingent upon" it complying with federal immigration rules, in a Wednesday letter to the university obtained by the New York Times.

UPDATES: The shooter allegedly went into the student union with a shotgun. They went through the rounds with the shotgun, then they switched to a handgun. When the individual was taken into custody after being shot at, they believe by law enforcement, the handgun was on his person.

Again, that shooter was taken into custody, seen face down on the ground. Law enforcement at this point has cleared multiple rooms. Almost every building and every room that they intend to clear has reportedly been cleared.

They are moving into the investigative phase but that is always a very fluid situation - it can go from one situation to another, but that's their understanding. Tallahassee PD is going to be the lead law enforcement agency for this investigation and potentially will have a press conference at 4:00 PM.

Earlier reports indicated there were 2 sh00ters, but according to other sources, that is incorrect. There was just one.

NEW: The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear oral arguments next month on whether the Trump administration can take steps to enforce its contentious proposal to end automatic birthright citizenship while litigation continues.

The court in a brief order deferred action on an emergency request made by the Trump administration to narrow the scope of nationwide injunctions imposed by judges.

The policy for now remains blocked nationwide.

The court, when it hears arguments on May 15, will consider whether judges exceeded their authority in issuing nationwide injunctions.

💥The Trump administration placed roughly 75% of full-time AmeriCorps employees on administrative leave Wednesday as the administration looks to rebuild the Clinton-era volunteer agency from scratch, Fox News Digital learned.

A total of 535 full-time AmeriCorps employees out of the agency's 700 staff were placed on leave, an administration official confirmed to Fox News Digital Thursday.

Volunteers with AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps, a program that focuses specifically on volunteer opportunities for youth between the ages of 18–26, were preemptively pulled out of the field ahead of the Trump administration placing the agency's full-time staffers on leave Wednesday, Fox Digital learned. Roughly $250 million in AmeriCorps contracts also have been canceled.

AmeriCorps is expected to remain in existence, according to the admin official, but the operations will essentially restart from scratch.

Disturbing footage showed people fleeing from a student union around midday local time Thursday.

A university alert said some police were on the scene and others were on the way.

It is unclear if anyone has been injured in the shooting.

Meteorology student Garrett Harvey shared a clip of people running across a road and wrote: 'There is a shooting around the student union.

'People are running across TN Street.'

Another meteorology student called Ryan Cedergren said he was in the affected area, but did not share further details about what happened.

Cedergren wrote: 'I was in the fsu student union

'We were just evacuated by police and are safe. Sending fervent prayers to all impacted, and huge thank you to fsu police, Tallahassee police, and everyone who came to help.'

Locals have been urged to stay inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows.

🙃Sen. Bernie Sanders has crisscrossed the country on his nationwide Fighting Oligarchy Tour to rail against billionaires and supposed "oligarchs" like Elon Musk—while traveling like an oligarch himself.

Campaign expenditures released Tuesday and reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show Sanders's main campaign committee, Friends of Bernie Sanders, spent $221,723 chartering private jets during the first quarter of 2025, with the first payment coming just days before the launch of his tour in February.

The revelation is just the latest contrast between his socialist rhetoric and his millionaire lifestyle. The Vermont senator used to rail against "millionaires and billionaires" in his speeches denouncing oligarchy—until he became a millionaire himself shortly before his 2020 presidential campaign, at which point he trained his fire on "billionaires." During that campaign, fellow candidate Michael Bloomberg mocked Sanders for amassing wealth while preaching socialism for the masses. "The best known socialist in the country happens to be a millionaire with three houses," Bloomberg said in a 2020 debate.

The Trump administration is offering the Washington, DC headquarters of the Department of Housing and Urban Development for sale as it seeks to reduce its real estate footprint for a shrinking federal workforce.

The HUD headquarters, known formally as the Robert C. Weaver Federal Building, is being added to the list of federal properties that the General Services Administration has designated for “accelerated disposal” on Thursday.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner has made no secret of his disdain for the property, calling it “the ugliest building in DC.” Aside from its austere concrete facade, the building has $500 million in deferred maintenance needs, including mechanical, electrical, foundation waterproofing and new elevators. The building costs $56 million a year to operate, officials said.

And even with HUD staff back to the office full time, the building is at half its total capacity.

🔥Following a Washington Examiner report, the House Oversight Committee launched an investigation into the Biden administration’s partnership with a Chinese Communist Party-linked nonprofit organization that helped manage land adjacent to military sites, according to a letter sent to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday.

The investigation came after the Washington Examiner found that the Nature Conservancy, a U.S.-based environmental nonprofit organization, maintains a Chinese branch where former members of the Chinese government and current affiliates of the CCP hold senior leadership positions. The House Oversight Committee found that the Nature Conservancy is involved in a federal program allowing it to help manage land near 34 military installations, including major bases such as Fort Knox and Camp Pendleton.

The Oversight Committee expressed worry that the Chinese government could compel the Nature Conservancy to provide it with sensitive information about U.S. military sites, a threat it said is “not without precedent.”
