The line graphs show the percentage of men and women who completed upper secondary education in Norway, the UK, Italy, and Spain between 1996 and 2003.

Overall, Norway consistently had the highest rates for both genders. All four countries saw a general upward trend in completion rates, though the increase varied in scale.

Among females, Norway began at around 90% in 1996 and reached a peak of 100% by 2000, maintaining this level for a few years before a slight drop in 2003. In contrast, the UK showed a steady climb from about 65% to 85%, after which the figure remained stable. Meanwhile, Spain and Italy started at similar levels, both near 70%. However, Spain experienced a more uneven trend, with a dip after 2000 followed by a sharp rise to 75% in 2003. Italy, on the other hand, showed a more gradual increase, ending just below 70% by the end of the period.

For males, Norway again led, climbing from 90% to 100% by 2001, though it dropped sharply to around 90% in 2003. The UK’s male graduation rates mirrored the female trend, rising gradually and levelling off at 85% after 1999. Italy recorded a slow but steady increase from nearly 60% to 70%, while Spain lagged behind throughout the period, starting at roughly 50% and ending only slightly higher, at around 55%, despite a minor increase in the early years

Extreme sports should be banned.
Do you agree or disagree?
Plan:
- No, it is too big to ban
- creates jobs, provides money
- contrast (no industry = no money)
- also, the black market
- e.g. BASE jumping in the US
- illegal sports harder to control

One clear reason why extreme sports should not be banned is that they are a large and growing industry that brings a lot of money. These sports create jobs through tourism, equipment sales, and media coverage, and they help local and national economies. If they were completely banned, it could cause financial problems and even lead to illegal events, which are usually more dangerous because they have no safety rules. For instance, when BASE jumping was banned in some areas of the United States, many people started doing it secretly in unsafe places, and this led to more accidents and made it harder for the authorities to control.

One very effective practice to implement into your Task 2 prep is something I used to do a lot back in 2017. I managed to improve my writing score from 5.5 to 6.5 at the time. Here is what you do:

1) Take a sample essay (band 8.0+)
2) Break the main body paragraphs into chunks of ideas so it looks like a plan
*3) If you can, exchange with your peer and both of you write a full main body out of each other's plan (different essays)

The point behind this practice is that it helps you understand and see what the essay actually is about (the gist), as well as the process of turning the plan into a proper body paragraph. You will significantly improve your C&C and TR scores. Guaranteed!

Another way to link ideas between or within sentences is to use pronouns and determiners like it, they, which, this, that.

And perhaps the most 'advanced' form of linking involves no linking words at all. Instead, you rely on the topic vocabulary itself to create cohesion.

When approaching IELTS Speaking Part 2, it’s best to get straight to the point. Many candidates spend too much time on lengthy introductions before beginning their story. Instead, start directly with a phrase like “I would like to describe…” and then launch into your narrative. This concise approach not only saves time but also keeps your answer focused and engaging for the examiner, who prefers clear and direct responses over elaborate preambles.

Many IELTS students become obsessed with 'linkers' - words or phrases that link ideas together in a paragraph e.g. firstly, secondly, furthermore, moreover. There is nothing wrong with using linkers, and they can certainly help you to write good paragraphs.

However, linkers become a problem when they are the only thing that students care about. Examiners care much more about the content between the linkers.

As an experiment, try writing a paragraph without linking words. Can you still make your paragraph coherent? Note: you probably don't use many linkers when you write in your own language!

In the past, people usually stayed in one place throughout their life. These days, people often move around. They often live in several different places in their lifetime.

Why is this?
Is it a positive or negative development?
I got this Task 2 question prompt on my latest exam. Here is the plan I had that got me Task Response 9.0:

Reason:
- Career opportunities => salary, new team, promotion
Reason:
- Higher living standards => climate, infrastructure

Positive:
- Cultural diversity => various ethnicities and range of cultures mix (e.g. Tashkent)
Positive:
- Local communities benefit => companies attract better specialists, schools get better teachers (e.g. remote areas in Uzb)

But why?

They say out of respect to Mr.Bekzod and all the work he has done for the IELTS community. I agree with this part, and I said it publicly once: he deserves a lot of respect, mine included. But does it mean my contribution is less? What if I impacted and changed more lives than him? (Not saying I did) This is a slippery slope (a dangerous situation/claim). That's why it is foolish to make a video comparing 2 teachers. And that's why I asked for its removal.

I DON'T need a correction video.

I need those 2 videos gone.

I need justice.

Alisher Sadullaev and IDP can serve justice by

(1) taking down the video

and

(2) making an apology message.

Is an apology message necessary? Yes, we cannot trust our leaders if they are not willing to accept their faults and seek forgiveness, just as we turn to God for repentance as an admission of our sins. Without an apology, they grow a thick skin and become more likely to act immoral again.

I cannot do it alone. I need your help. You can see with your eyes what they did is wrong. If you ignore it while having power and choice to change it, you become part of this lie.

Here's what we can do.

1. Repost these messages as much as we can

2. Boycott IDP (I officially ended our partnership)

These messages might get me in trouble, but I know I will get in much bigger trouble if I betray my values.

Choice is ours. Choice is yours. I choose to act.

This is fundamentally wrong. Alisher Sadullaev is a public servant (his pay comes from taxes paid by us, the people) who should ensure fairness and justice as well as inspiring and helping the Uzbek youth. But he is willingly engaging in an unfair act and misinforming his constituents (the public, us). Given his social media reach (1.8 mln views on that single video as I'm writing these posts), he has a social, and more importantly, moral obligation to act in a fair and responsible manner.

In the meantime, IDP released a "correction" video. You can watch it above. It doesn't correct anything. It makes the video even worse. All niners, except the first 2, are ranked based on the date when they took the test, not when their results came out. With the first 2, however, they show the date when the results were released, again to twist the facts.

This is a coordinated misinformation campaign (joint action) by Alisher Sadullaev and IDP to hide the truth.

Thinking IDP representatives might've communicated my message wrong, I asked for an online call with Alisher Sadullaev and IDP head (Akmal Akhror or Umidjon Ishmukhamedov) to talk things over and solve the issue peacefully.

I'd assume Alisher Sadullaev would say no to a call because he might be too busy. But he chose not to talk because he mistook my intention to ensure fairness for arrogance.

Too much to process?

Let me give you some more context and explain things in more detail.

When the video was released, I told my friend Alisher (old friend, not the public official) we had to do something about it. His reaction was "you never cared about being called second. In fact, you said in the past (on a podcast) Mr.Bekzod deserves the "first" niner title more than you". He was right. I never did because before it was simply an opinion. But now Alisher Sadullaev, the Youth Agency, and IDP, are trying to pass it as a fact. The problem here is that these are verified, trusted sources, who people rely on to make important decisions.

I reached out to our then partner (not anymore) IDP to take down the video. They said their role in this video was only to provide the list of niners, which actually shows me as the first niner (a private exchange with IDP's Akmal Akhror). They said they talked to the agency and they said no to removing the video. I also asked to issue a public apology message for spreading wrong information and make a correction video. As you can imagine, the answer was again no.

The video has a good chance of being used as a marketing tool by the supposedly "first" niner to make millions of dollars annually. Yes, not thousands, but millions. If only you knew how much money big schools in Tashkent are making with their "Niner" campaigns, which raises the question of "whether Alisher Sadullaev and IDP did what they did to share in the profit”

Even if they didn’t, Alisher Sadullaev - a public servant - is knowingly engaging in the spread of misleading information, which can influence the decisions of many parents and students (millions of people based on the video view count).

Honesty...

Are we really being honest? Or are we simply covering up the truth with self-serving thoughts, images, or in this case, videos. What they call a good intention to inspire people and do good is, in reality, an attempt to serve personal interests (pride, ego, fame, etc.) and relationships at the expense of the real truth.

I'm making the following posts in response to immoral acts of the Youth Agency and Alisher Sadullayev and IDP and calling for your help to serve justice.

I can't do it alone. We, the People, can.

A lot of candidates keep taking mock exams or practice tests — I’ve done the same. But honestly, you won’t see much progress if all you do is keep practicing. The real improvement comes from learning from your mistakes and expanding your vocabulary. The sooner you realize this, the better.

How many of you actually analyze your tests? And are you sure you’re doing it the right way? Take a closer look at the tapescript — comparing your choices with the correct ones can massively improve your understanding of the test. Do this after every practice session, and you’ll start seeing real progress.

P.S. This applies to the Reading, Speaking, and Writing modules too — though each has its own nuances!

I hadn't posted it immediately bcs I wanted to see the breakdown first. So here we go.

I got 8.5 with 0.5 away from 9.0
It was a good performance overall. At the time, I felt very close to hitting another 9.0. I knew I'd done well in Task 2 and Speaking. You see that the score reflects this. Having said that, I wasn't expecting 7.0 for T1, so I am a little disappointed there.
Anyway, the only reason I took the test was to see if I have made any improvements in my speaking, and not to get another 9.0.

Before seeing the breakdown, I was a bit hesitant to reveal the score to the public, but now I'm more secure with what I got. Although I couldn't get the 9.0 for Speaking, I'm more than happy to have made the progress, even this slightest.

By the way, TR 9.0 and F&C 9.0 are my personal records. Now, I have achieved all possible 9.0s except for Pronunciation.

Hope this motivates someone to keep pushing. Chama!

First, let me tell u why I took the test. I wasn't after the four 9.0s. My priority was Speaking 9.0. I have never gotten 9.0 in this module, so that's the goal. I dont wanna sound arrogant, but I no longer care about Writing. Sorry if this offends anyone. So, naturally, I only focused on Speaking prep.

Many people are working longer hours.
Why is this happening?
What problems can this cause to people?
#writing

In recent years, longer working hours have become a common trend in many countries. As job markets become more competitive and the cost of living continues to rise, many individuals feel compelled to work beyond standard hours. In my opinion, this trend comes with serious consequences for both physical and mental well-being.

This trend is driven by several factors, primarily competition in the job market and cultural expectations regarding productivity. Firstly, rising living costs, such as rent and daily expenses, force individuals to work extra hours to maintain financial stability. This is particularly evident in urban areas, where wages often struggle to keep up with inflation. Secondly, the modern work culture promotes productivity and hard work, making employees feel pressured to work beyond their standard hours to secure promotions or job security. Many companies encourage overtime as a sign of dedication, leading to an overworked workforce.

However, this trend poses significant problems. One major issue is the negative impact on mental and physical health. Long working hours contribute to stress, burnout, and depression, which can severely affect overall well-being. Additionally, physical health deteriorates due to sedentary lifestyles, increasing the risk of heart disease and obesity. In extreme cases, prolonged stress can lead to early death. Another problem is the reduction in personal time, which affects relationships. With limited free time, people struggle to maintain strong bonds with family and friends, leading to loneliness and emotional distress.

In conclusion, while financial and professional pressures push people to work longer hours, the consequences on health and relationships are severe.

In the past, people usually stayed in one place throughout their life. These days, people often move around. They often live in several different places in their lifetime.

Why is this the case? Is it a positive or negative development?
#writing

There are several reasons why people today relocate more frequently than in the past, with career opportunities and better living conditions being the main driving forces. While some argue that this trend negatively affects family ties, I believe it is largely a positive development due to its economic and social benefits.

One of the primary reasons for increased mobility is career growth. In the modern world, individuals often move to different cities or even countries to access better job prospects and professional development. For instance, Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, has become a hub for skilled workers from smaller towns due to its expanding economy and diverse employment opportunities. Additionally, many people relocate in search of improved living standards. Some cities offer better healthcare, education, and infrastructure, making them more attractive for individuals seeking a higher quality of life.

Some may argue that frequent relocation weakens family bonds since people live far from their relatives. However, with modern communication technologies, maintaining close relationships has become much easier, allowing families to stay connected despite physical distance. Moreover, increased mobility benefits local communities, particularly those in remote areas that suffer from a severe shortage of skilled professionals. For example, doctors and teachers moving to rural regions help address critical workforce gaps, leading to significant improvements in public services.

In conclusion, more people move nowadays because of job opportunities and better living conditions. Although some think this harms family bonds, the benefits, such as economic growth and improved communities, make it a positive change.

Some believe that the government should support artists like musicians, painters, and poets, while others argue that this is a misuse of funds.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
#mysample
#writing
#examconditions

There is a view that creative individuals, such as musicians, painters and poets, should be assisted financially. However, such use of the government budget could be met with broad criticism. In my opinion, monetary support for these professions might be justified, as creative jobs are often underpaid for the contribution they can make to maintain and promote the nation’s cultural identity.

On the one hand, some may argue that spending money to sustain creative fields is not a wise decision. They often claim that taxpayers wish to see their money allocated for more critical areas, such as the improvement of infrastructure, enhancement of school facilities, healthcare supplies, technological advancements and many other essential fields. These funds, they say, could be better spent on the areas that concern the entire nation rather than few individuals.

On the other hand, there are also those who support the idea of helping artists. In many cases, creative professions might entail risks, as the potential rewards in the form of fame, recognition, and money may take long to be accomplished. Some artists may need more time for their works to be valued, and to bring fame and fortune. A world-renowned painter – Vincent van Gogh – could be a good example, whose paintings were duly recognised only after his death, while he is believed to have lived a life of misery and poverty.

In my view, while it is important to make sensible financial investments, sharing a tiny fraction of the government funds to support artistic individuals should be viewed from a different perspective: these professions play a major role in promoting the nation’s cultural values and keep the heritage alive. Novels of Dostoevsky, for example, have left a significant mark in the history of the world literature, encouraging millions of people around the globe to take interest in Russian culture.

The table and pie charts detail the sources of police funds and their distribution in a British region in 2017 and 2018. Overall, over this period, the monetary investments into the police budget grew noticeably, with the local taxes recording the highest relative growth. While the majority of the police budget is channeled from the national government, salaries were the primary expenses in both years, though it had been cut down slightly by 2018.

The table reveals that the police budget in this region of Britain is formed through three main areas, including national government, local taxes, and other sources like grants. All the investments from these sources rose over the period, with the total amount jumping from about 305 m to just below 320m. While national government was the major investment source (more than 175m), distantly followed by local taxes, the money from other sources made up slightly more than a tenth of the budget – 38m.

From the charts we can see that employee wages accounted for the largest portion of the expenses, 75% in 2017 and 69% in 2018. Notably, although the share of buildings and transport expenditure came next (17% in both years), the spendings on technology increased significantly, almost doubling from a modest 8% to 14%.

Some quite challenging Speaking Part 3 questions from the app.

🎙What do young people have strong opinions about?

Young people tend to have strong opinions about social issues like climate change, gender equality, and mental health. They’re also quite vocal about lifestyle choices, such as work-life balance, career paths, and personal freedom. With social media, their views on trends, entertainment, and technology are constantly evolving, and they often feel strongly about brands, influencers, and digital privacy.

🎙What do old people have strong opinions about?

Older people often have strong opinions about tradition, respect, and societal values, as they’ve seen how things have changed over time. They also tend to have firm views on politics, health, and financial security, especially regarding pensions and healthcare. Many are quite opinionated about the younger generation’s lifestyle, including technology use, work ethic, and family values.

The bar chart details the families' weekly spendings in a particular nation in two separate years with a 50-year gap. The data is divided into 8 categories. Overall, the way households spent their weekly earnings noticeably changed to a varying extent, with food, housing, and leisure expenses recording the largest differences. Notably, while the major spending initially, food, decreased significantly, leisure and housing expenses increased substantially to lead the chart in 2018.

In 1968, the food was the primary expense in the family budget, with just above a third of the weekly income spent on this category. This figure was distantly followed by housing, and clothing and footwear spendings - both at 10%. The remaining categories were evenly distributed at near 8%, with the exception of fuel and power, which was ranked last at slightly more than 5%.

By 2018, the situation changed markedly. The previous largest category, food, was now ranked third, and families apportioned just a meager 17% of their weekly earnings on it. This decline contrasts starkly with the growth of the two largest spendings, leisure and accommodation, with the former dominating at above 22% and the latter coming next at just below 20%. The leftover categories changed too, though to a varying degree, with household goods only remaining unchanged.

Today, many people do not know their neighbors.
Why is this?
What can be done about this?

#writing
#mysample

There has been a noticeable decline in the way people interact with their neighbours. So, some individuals barely know each other while living in the same block of flats. This trend is mainly driven by frequent relocations to seek better living conditions and potential job offers. However, to tackle this issue, there need to be community projects organised and facilities provided by local government officials to encourage residents to interact with each other more often.

The primary reason behind this trend is that individuals today often move from one place to another within the city or sometimes even further away. This phenomenon is often fuelled by job opportunities available in the current job market, potential travel experiences, or better living conditions. These needs tend to be better met in bigger cities or in the developing areas with newly-built housing, which may offer numerous benefits for residents. While this usually means people make a greater number of new contacts, the quality of these relationships is mainly superficial. Thus, today’s social bonds between neighbours are not strong enough.

Nevertheless, the situation can be potentially mitigated or possibly reversed given the right conditions. One way to approach the issue is to hold regular community projects, which may include gatherings, meal-sharing, exchange of interests, competitions or even festivals that emphasise the significance of local community bonds. This could encourage more people to join and show interest in the community relationships, leading them meet more neighbours and build meaningful relationships. My country, Uzbekistan, can a good example of how these community events are beneficial. Families often meet potiantial friends for life, young people may seek career opportunities through mutual networking, or even fulfill their personal goals such as meeting a potential partner for marriage.

In conclusion, the current trend where communities are full of strangers barely making interactions comes from families changing living places or even cities in the pursuit of improved career prospects or living conditions. In my opinion, the way forward would be for local government bodies to initiate community events to promote interactive and engaging meetings of local residents.

I have barely done any writing under exam conditions since my last exam (May 2024). Now, as the famous proverb says: "Use it or lose it". I can feel that although my overall skills are improved, I have lost the pace, the tempo, the rhythm or whatever you call it. I will share my essay that I have just written in like 35 minutes or so.

Spoiler alert: I spent around 10 minutes brainstorming nice ideas, which I ironically didn't even use much, and ended up draining my precious time. So, the lesson? Do both, guys. Don't practice only exam conditions or vice versa. Strike a balance.

For example, this is not just a bar chart. There is an element of a pie chart and line graph too.

You would use the pie chart language because of percentages (that add up to 100%) and split the period into 1960-1980 and 1980-2000 based on a clear trend.

Once you are at 6.5-7.0, you are no longer dealing with simple "pie charts, tables, line graphs", there is now a lot more to it. You must be able to dig deeper and explore more intricate patterns like "graph with 2 years, graph with 3 years, graph with periods split, 2 categories, multiple categories, mixed types, men vs women, percentages, age brackets, and many many more."

"read my essay and tell me whether all arguments and ideas are clear, relevant, and fully developed. If not, point out any unclear points and lapses in the content. Focus on the Task Response and Coherence and Cohesion aspects of the essay. Use the official band descriptors as a reference. "

"you are an ielts examiner, George. Lets analyse the attached bar chart and see if I did a good job of reporting main features and key trends. My goal is to fit the official band descriptors as closely as possible to get 9/9/9/9. let me know about any major issues."

P.S. I dont think you will get an identical response but try.

The bar chart details the information on yearly earnings of American households over 8 years. The data is broken down into five income brackets. Overall, the pattern of income distribution remained relatively similar across the period, with most categories seeing an upward trend. Additionally, although the majority of households were somewhat evenly distributed across the income brackets, the $75,000 – $99,999 category consistently showed by far the smallest figures.

Initially, the largest number of households, at close to 30 million, earned the highest annual income – $100,000 or above. Despite a negligible drop in 2011, this figure generally rose, finishing at its peak of more than 30 million in 2015. Notably, this category was closely followed by the households with the lowest income brackets (less than $25,000 and $25,000 - $49,999), at around 25-27 million in 2007. Similarly, these two income categories also saw their household numbers increase slightly by about 5 million each, by the end of the period.

By contrast, the $50,000 – $74,999 and $75,000 - $99,999 income groups exhibited the lowest number of households in 2007. While the former category had 20 million, just below 15 million households were in the latter bracket that year. The picture had barely changed by 2015; both figures slightly fluctuated but returned to their initial levels.
