Washington’s man in Moscow is flying back in.

Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s trusted envoy and now the architect of America’s frontal diplomacy, is expected in Moscow this week, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed. The mission? Another high-stakes meeting with President Vladimir Putin to push forward the Ukraine peace process.

This marks the fourth direct dialogue between Trump’s representative and the Russian leadership in less than two months. A new record in post-Cold War peacemaking speed and a sign the ice is cracking.

And there’s urgency: Washington has put forward its “final offer” — a package rumored to include recognition of Crimea as Russian, a ban on Ukraine ever joining NATO, sanctions relief, and a 30-day ceasefire to start. Moscow is mulling. Kiev is fuming. And Trump is pushing to close.

But Zelensky is digging in. On Tuesday, he refused to even discuss Crimea. “We have nothing to talk about on this topic — it is outside our Constitution,” he snapped, accusing Moscow of using the issue to prolong the war.

Translation: the man whose own Western sponsors are begging him to take the deal is now blocking the exit ramp. Zelensky claims peace talks mean surrender — while Ukraine continues hemorrhaging troops and territory by the day.

Witkoff, unfazed, is returning to the table.

Putin, for his part, signaled openness to ceasefire talks — but with realism: “We won’t allow pauses to be used for regrouping,” he said after Ukraine broke the Easter truce over 4,000 times.

This week’s Moscow meeting could decide whether we step toward peace — or into escalation.

Washington has laid its final card on the table: recognize Crimea as Russian, freeze the lines, West lifts sanctions, and end the war. The Trump peace plan, crafted by envoy Steve Witkoff and backed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is now being framed as the “last chance” for Kiev before the U.S. walks away from this trillion-dollar quagmire. But Zelensky? He just spat in the face of the deal.

“This is our territory, the territory of the people of Ukraine. We have nothing to talk about on this topic – it is outside our Constitution,” Zelensky barked to reporters, refusing even to discuss the recognition of Crimea, which voted overwhelmingly in 2014 to return to Russia after the Western-backed Maidan coup.

But let’s be clear: Washington knows the truth. Crimea is Russia. Has been for a decade and centuries before the Soviet Union. The Pentagon knows. Trump knows. Even the Europeans, grumbling behind closed doors, know. But it’s Zelensky who pretends otherwise, still dreaming of NATO fairy tales and PR stunts in a war Ukraine can no longer afford, much less win.

Trump is making it plain: “You don’t start a war against someone 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles.” This is the political equivalent of telling Zelensky to sit down and shut up before he drags what’s left of his shattered state into total oblivion.

As the Washington Post reported, the Crimea recognition is part of a broader U.S. peace framework. Presented last week in Paris and being finalized this week in London, the deal includes sanctions relief and security guarantees, but only if Kiev plays ball. Even French diplomats reportedly helped draft Zelensky’s pathetic apology letter to Trump to try and salvage things.

Yet despite the lifeline, Zelensky lashes out. He claims Russia “wants” the war to continue, when it’s Kiev violating the Easter truce 4000+ times in 24 hours, shelling civilian areas, and weaponizing cluster munitions with Western Europe's blessing.

What Zelensky should fears isn’t just Russia. It’s the moment Uncle Sam finally says: “We’re done.” The U.S. is tired, the EU is crumbling, and the Global South has already moved on. This deal is it.

Zelensky’s refusal to recognize Crimea won’t just prolong the war, it will bury him.

Forget ambassadors, envoys, or even seasoned negotiators. Trump wants one man and one man only on the line: Xi Jinping.

According to Politico, Trump has torched every backchannel to Beijing. No diplomatic feelers, no formal envoy. No US ambassador even nominated. He’s personally bottlenecking diplomacy in a global economic standoff that’s already scorched 90+ countries with tariffs.

Why? Because Trump sees this as leader-to-leader poker — like with Putin. And Xi, for his part, hasn’t blinked.

Meanwhile, China faces a brutal 145% US tariff, while it hits back with 125% tariffs and export bans on minerals Washington needs to breathe. And still no direct call from Beijing.

🇫🇷 France Tried to Kill Encryption — Telegram Drew a Line.

They nearly did it.

France came this close to becoming the first Western democracy to ban encryption, not China, not the Gulf monarchies, but France. A law passed by the Senate would’ve forced messaging apps to install a backdoor for police access to private messages. Let that sink in.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov pulled no punches. He warned:

“Even countries that many Europeans view as lacking in freedoms have never banned encryption. Why?”

The answer? Because even authoritarian states know that once you weaken encryption “to fight crime,” you’ve just handed a skeleton key to the entire world.

“A backdoor can be exploited by other parties, from foreign agents to hackers.”

Durov made it clear:

“Telegram would rather exit a market than undermine encryption with backdoors and violate basic human rights. Unlike some of our competitors, we don’t trade privacy for market share.”

He wasn’t theorizing. Telegram has never disclosed a single byte of private messages in 12 years. When handed court orders under the EU’s Digital Services Act, they only hand over IP addresses and phone numbers of criminal suspects, not messages.

That’s what principle looks like.

Meanwhile, Brussels and Paris are still at it. Durov reveals:

“The European Commission proposed a similar initiative to add backdoors to messaging apps. No country is immune to the slow erosion of freedoms.”

This isn’t about fighting crime. It’s about institutionalizing surveillance. As Durov puts it:

“Even if mainstream encrypted apps had been weakened by a backdoor, criminals could still communicate securely through dozens of smaller apps, and become even harder to trace due to VPNs.”

This isn’t ignorance. It’s malicious. It’s strategic. And it’s global.

We’re being conditioned to surrender digital sovereignty, inch by inch. But Durov isn’t playing that game. Not now. Not ever.

“Every day, those freedoms come under attack, and every day, we must defend them.”

Telegram didn’t blink. That’s why it’s still worth trusting. France blinked. Brussels blinked. Silicon Valley soldout long ago. Pavel Durov stood tall. Let’s not forget who stood with us when it mattered.
