“You get presented with, on equal merits, like a white person or a black person or whatever. Yeah, we're going with the black person,” revealed Jonathan Ferrer, Director of Human Resources for Summit Public Schools, a charter network operating in California and Washington, to an OMG hidden camera, admitting to employment practices that violate federal and state anti-discrimination laws.

During the hidden camera investigation, Ferrer acknowledged that hiring decisions are often made based on race. He explained further that hiring is evaluated in terms of the school’s perceived cultural needs, adding, “Who do we feel is best for kids right now in the context of that school site or that classroom? So if it’s a person of color, great. If it’s a trans teacher, great.”

Ferrer also discussed how the district’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) priorities impact candidate selection. When asked if there are certain quotas they try to meet, he explained, “Obviously we have a lot of kids that identify as LGBTQ, maybe even trans. So we have one trans teacher in our district… and so I think it’s just culturally, we just naturally look for those folks.”

Ferrer also admitted that political ideology plays a role in who is and isn’t hired. When asked if Summit Public Schools would ever hire someone who supports Donald Trump, Ferrer bluntly replied, “I don’t think we would hire them.” He elaborated that the school uses DEI-based interview questions to filter out candidates who do not align with the district’s values. “We do have DEI questions built into our selection process,” Ferrer said. “We have a rubric… if they say any of these things, this is not someone who's answering the question the way we’re aligned to answer the question.”

He provided an example of the kind of response that would disqualify a candidate, saying, “If the candidate or teacher is like, ‘Well, I want to make sure that [students] learn about conservative values,’ blah, blah, blah… that’s probably not what we are looking for.”

Last Friday, I joined a meeting with psychology faculty at the invitation of the CoPLA Dean. The purpose was to address questions around our continued efforts to align with evolving state and federal DEI regulations. As always, we are navigating these changes with a clear commitment to full legal compliance and academic excellence—our top priorities.

FLORIDA TECH PRESIDENT Admits to ‘Tweaking the Language’ of 'DEI Courses' to Bypass DEI Ban


“We have not changed, if you noticed, our core values on our website,” stated John Nicklow, President of Florida Institute of Technology, in a secretly recorded board meeting provided to O’Keefe Media Group by a source. In the recording, Nicklow speaks candidly with faculty and administrators about the need to modify language in public-facing documents and course catalogs to avoid becoming a target for state and federal defunding efforts. “We are going to do what we do, let’s not unnecessarily put a target on our back,” Nicklow furthered.

Nicklow described direct pressure from Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration, revealing, “These people are just looking for words, okay?” referencing how language about “gender expression” on a Title IX page drew attention from Gov. Desantis.

“If it then hits NSF [National Science Foundation], we lose millions of dollars,” he warned staff and educators, noting that the legislation extends to the university’s ability to secure federally funded research grants. “We are seeing specific projects being pulled… because they had the words in executive summary of ‘climate change.’” His recommendation: “If you word it as surveillance and defense, it will probably get funded.”

Nicklow didn’t hold back in his assessment of driving political efforts, stating, “They are not smart people,” adding, “They are simply searching, whatever comes back on [the] web, searching without understanding.”

Despite the warnings, Nicklow maintained support for educators, “You’re not going to get fired for teaching those [DEI] courses,” assuring faculty that the university’s General Counsel would back them if issues arose.

Nicklow recalled conversations with legislators, claiming, “They didn’t know that overhead keeps the lights on.” “I had frank conversations with our congressmen, and they had no idea,” he said.

When questioned about how to navigate the changing environment, he concluded: “Well, you don’t get to pick and choose which parts of diversity community you support and which you don't. My advice is, be mindful of words.”

More than three years after an FBI raid disrupted his home and newsroom, James O’Keefe has finally received his confiscated property: two iPhones.

The devices arrived with a receipt for property from the United States Department of Justice. The form was signed by Special Agent Anthony Casola, the very agent who was present in O’Keefe’s apartment during the November 2021 raid.

Inside the package was a breakdown of the items seized: an iPhone 12 Pro Max and an iPhone A1921. The phones, returned without warning, still held a charge. “The last text messages on one of the phones were from November 6th, 2021,” said O’Keefe, “the day after the raid.” He also noted one message to Fox News host Jesse Watters and a screenshot sent to his lawyer regarding a meeting the morning after the incident.

Curiously, the other iPhone only contained messages up until July 24th, 2021, months before the raid itself, raising questions about what may have happened to the data during the government’s custody.

O’Keefe called the raid “unconstitutional” and announced a forthcoming lawsuit against the Department of Justice. He pointed to the delay in the return of his property as a symbol of bureaucratic abuse and the erosion of protections for journalists.

“If it takes them this long to return your property to a newsroom,” he said in the video, “good luck getting the Epstein list.”

You're about to have a worse day," James O'Keefe stated, addressing James Welch, a National Institutes of Health official recently caught on hidden camera revealing he counsels researchers to alter language in clinical trial protocols, specifically replacing the term "race" with "ancestry," to evade DOGE oversight. “This is you on camera,” revealed O’Keefe.

O'Keefe pressed Welch about his role in modifying terminology, asking if it was deceitful to replace "race" with "ancestry." Welch denied the claim, repeatedly saying, "I didn't lie,” affirming that he suggested altering the language "for scientific accuracy."

As the encounter continued, Welch attempted to flee in his Tesla. Despite appearing eager to disengage, Welch rolled down his window and continued the discussion. "I believe in good science. O'Keefe referenced a text message reportedly sent by Welch to an undercover journalist, in which he described the situation at work as "a bloodbath" with people losing their jobs. Despite the tension, Welch continued to assert that his actions were justified. Welch replied, "I care about people,” adding, “You don't care about people or their health.”

O'Keefe rebutted, stating, "Of course, we care deeply about people. We want people to know what's going on in their government." He concluded by pointing out the common reactions he encounters during such investigations: "They always either run away, assault me, call the police, or say nothing. That was like everything but calling the police right there and assaulting."

“I had to go and look at what was leaked as far as the banned words… and figure out what to suggest and choose,” admitted James Welch, a National Institutes of Health genetic counselor, revealing the extent to which he is coaching researchers to manipulate grant applications in order to bypass federal restrictions.

Welch, who works at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, was caught on hidden camera explaining how he helps principal investigators (PIs) at the NIH adjust their wording to avoid scrutiny from government oversight bodies, including the Department of Government Efficiency. "There are banned words that they're [DOGE] cutting grants for… Two of the words are ‘women’ and ‘female,’" Welch revealed.

Welch detailed how he actively advised a researcher to alter the language in a study on cortisol levels in Black and White women, ensuring it would not trigger red flags in the grant approval process. “Just make it not the primary objective, make it a secondary objective, and change the word ‘race’ to ‘ancestry,’” he advised.

Welch also acknowledged that NIH’s intramural research programs face fewer barriers than extramural projects funded at universities, stating, “We can do it [microdialysis] if we have the money,” highlighting the power NIH insiders wield over approving their own research.

Welch also made comments about purchasing firearms and potential retaliation against individuals at the NIH. “My mom told me today not to shoot anybody because I’ve been buying guns,” he remarked. When pressed about why he was purchasing firearms, Welch responded, “Just thinking about worst-case scenarios and being like, well, why not be prepared?”

Obituary for my father.

Richard Warner Carlson died at 84 on March 24, 2025 at home in Boca Grande, Florida after six weeks of illness. He refused all painkillers to the end and left this world with dignity and clarity, holding the hands of his children with his dogs at his feet.

He was born February 10, 1941 at Massachusetts General Hospital to a 15-year-old Swedish-speaking girl and placed in the Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, where he developed rickets from malnutrition. His legs were bent for the rest of his life. After years in foster homes, he was placed with the Carlson family in Norwood, Mass. His adoptive father, a tannery manager, died when he was 12 and he stopped attending school regularly. At 17, he was jailed for car theft, thrown out of high school for the second time, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 1962, in search of adventure, he drove to California. He spent a year as a merchant seaman on the SS Washington Bear, transporting cargo to ports in the Orient, and then became a reporter. Over the next decade, he was a copy boy at the LA Times, a wire service reporter for UPI and an investigative reporter and anchor for ABC News, covering the upheaval of the period. He knew virtually every compelling figure of the time, including Jim Jones, Patty Hearst, Eric Hoffer, Jerry Garcia, as well as Mafia leaders and members of the Manson Family. In 1965, he was badly injured reporting from the Watts riots in Los Angeles.

By 1975, he was married with two small boys, when his wife departed for Europe and didn’t return. He threw himself into raising his boys, whom he often brought with him on reporting trips. At home, he educated them during three-hour dinners on topics that ranged from the French Revolution to Bolshevik Russia, PG Wodehouse, the history of the American Indian and, always, the eternal and unchanging nature of people. He was a free thinker and a compulsive book reader, including at red lights. He left a library of thousands of books, most dog-eared and filled with marginalia. His reading and life experiences convinced him that God is real. He had an outlaw spirit tempered by decency.

In 1979, he married the love of his life, Patricia Swanson. They were together for 44 years, all of them happy. She died sixteen months before he did and he mourned her every day.

In 1985, he moved to Washington to work for the Reagan Administration. He spent five years as the director of the Voice of America, and then moved to the Seychelles as the US ambassador. In 1992, he became the CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and later ran a division of King World television.

The last 25 years of his life were spent in work whose details were never completely clear to his family, but that was clearly interesting. He worked in dozens of countries and breakaway republics around the world, and was involved in countless intrigues. He knew a number of colorful national leaders, including Rafic Hariri of Lebanon, Aslan Abashidze of Adjara, Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire, and whomever runs Somaliland. He was a fundamentally nonjudgmental person who was impossible to shock, and he described them all with amused affection.

He spoke to his sons every day and had lunch with them once a week for thirty years at the Metropolitan Club in Washington, always prefaced by a dice game. Throughout his life he fervently loved dogs.

Richard W. Carlson is survived by his sons, Tucker and Buckley, his beloved daughter-in-law Susie, and five grandchildren. He was the toughest human being anyone in his family ever knew, and also the kindest and most loyal. RIP.

A leaked phone call obtained by O'Keefe Media Group exposes Southern New Hampshire University is continuing to integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into its sociology courses, despite President Trump’s executive order aimed at limiting DEI teachings in federally funded schools. The audio and supporting documents reveal that the university is teaching students topics like “Why white school districts have so much money,” revealing the institution is disregarding federal mandates.

In the call, Jeanne Martin, an adjunct professor and academic advisor at SNHU, confirms that DEI is heavily integrated into the university's courses, stating, “DEI is very much integrated into the courses at SNHU,” and further asserting, “the federal government has no impact on courses at SNHU.” This is significant given that SNHU is a federally funded university, receiving financial support from the government since the 1970s.

President Trump’s Executive Order 14173 intends to eliminate “discriminatory DEI” practices within federal government agencies and encourage “merit-based” hiring and promotions across the private sector. The order also has implications for educational institutions that receive federal funding, making the ongoing inclusion of DEI in SNHU’s curriculum a potential violation.

At the Citizen Journalism Foundation, we are committed to protecting whistleblowers who expose critical truths about government agencies and corporations. Our latest case involves David Nelsen, a Tax Examining Technician at the Internal Revenue Service, who stepped forward to reveal concerns about the agency’s outdated and “antiquated systems” that “handcuff” employees from effectively serving the public. Nelsen has been placed on “paid administrative leave” while the agency “investigates” his conduct, according to a letter he received on March 14, 2025.

"The latest status is that we just received a letter... indicating that he would be placed on paid leave while the agency is investigating his conduct," said Nicole Pearson of Citizen AG. "Which is interesting language because they need to be investigating... his claims and the basis for his plans, and not his conduct."

Pearson and Citizen AG have taken proactive legal measures to ensure Nelsen’s rights are protected. "First and foremost, we have sent a letter of representation, informing the IRS, the Treasury, and other involved agencies that we do represent him and that we are watching him specifically," she stated.

She emphasized that they are well-versed in whistleblower protections and will be closely monitoring the agency’s actions. "If they don't [protect his rights], we are prepared to step in and do so on his behalf."

Nelsen’s case is particularly significant because he was exercising his rights under the IRS Internal Revenue Manual (IRM) Section 7.5.3.3(2), which allows employees to express opinions on matters of public concern. Additionally, the Whistleblower Protection Act and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act safeguards federal employees from retaliation when exposing violations of law, mismanagement, or abuse of taxpayer funds.

The Citizen Journalism Foundation and Citizen AG continue to stand by whistleblowers like Nelsen, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected. "We are here again to expose and hold these agencies accountable... and that you have tools and a team at your disposal to help protect you," Nicole Pearson of Citizen AG affirmed.

In a leaked audio provided to O’Keefe Media Group from an anonymous source, ESPN producer Ryan Bertrand can be heard making disparaging remarks about sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, questioning his credibility for political commentary, on-air persona, and recent actions involving LeBron James.

“He [Smith] goes on Fox News probably like once a week, and he'll talk about like, Gaza,” revealed Bertrand, adding, “He has no idea about Gaza, but for whatever reason, Fox News will have him do a ten-minute conversation with their anchor.” Colleagues at ESPN reportedly find it baffling: “We’re like, brother, you were just talking about the Lakers, like, three hours ago. Like, what do you know about Gaza?”

He goes on to describe Smith’s TV persona as a calculated act, adding, “He plays the angry black man on TV.” Bertrand elaborates, “It's more how loud you are and how you deliver your speech,” explaining that the stereotype hinges on being loud and overbearing.

The audio also sheds light on LeBron James confronting Smith over repeated commentary about his son, Bronny. “Stephen A. had been talking about LeBron's son for, like, a while,” Bertrand explained. “Long story short, LeBron confronted him at a game one time and basically said, ‘Stop talking sh*t about my son.’”

Following the confrontation, Smith reportedly tried to control the narrative through media appearances: “Ever since that, Stephen A. has been on like four different podcasts, basically like, 'I thought it was a weak move coming up to me,' and whatnot. It's just this whole embarrassing thing that we're all rolling our eyes at.”

According to Bertrand, within ESPN, Smith is seen as someone who thrives on stirring controversy. “They [ESPN Staff] just think he's crazy. Just trying to create attention,” Bertrand stated. “Which is his job, I guess. He gets paid a lot of money to do that.” Bertrand even likened Smith to a media opportunist, agreeing he’s a “grifter:” “[Smith is] very much ‘whoever's buying my bullsh*t, I will sell you my bullsh*t.’ Which, it's like Fox News sometimes, I guess.”

“I will purposefully look for those diverse-based hires,” revealed Albie Velarde, the Director of Casino Marketing at MGM Springfield, to an undercover OMG Journalist. Velarde admitted, “I’d probably hire the African American,” openly favoring candidates based on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles while excluding white applicants from hiring considerations.

Velarde also revealed that MGM tracks workforce composition closely, with HR providing monthly summaries of gender and racial turnover. He stated, “At a [MGM] property level, HR sends us, every month when they send us our turnover summary of the month, they’ll point out this month we lost this amount of females versus males.” According to him, these reports influence hiring decisions. “Hey guys, we’re losing all of our female workforce. Let’s try, you know, let’s put more females through the pipeline,” he recounted, explaining how HR directs hiring managers to focus on specific demographics.

He also described a hiring approach where employees are replaced with candidates of the same race or gender. “So like if I lose one of my female hosts, I would try to replace her with a female,” he admitted. “Selena, she’s my Vietnamese host, she’s very reserved, she’s very quiet. But that’s her culture,” adding, “I would replace her with somebody who is, in some capacity, that culture.”

An Internal Revenue Service Tax Examining Technician, David Nelsen, has come forward with revelations about systemic inefficiencies, corruption, and waste within the agency, only to be swiftly placed on leave following his disclosures.

Nelsen, who courageously blew the whistle on the IRS, exposed how the agency has claimed to work on modernization efforts since 1990 with little progress. "The estimate for completely replacing these antiquated systems is upwards of a trillion dollars," he stated, acknowledging that this figure comes from upper management and may be exaggerated, but still highlights the urgency of addressing the outdated technology dating back to the 1960s.

Nelsen shared that prior to his decision to speak out, colleagues within the IRS were "very nervous" about his actions. "It is very strongly discouraged," he said, noting that discussing internal inefficiencies publicly could be seen as providing "insider information that could cause harm to the federal government."

"I'm doing this because I think the public needs to know how bad things are internally," he explained, adding, "We're trying to do our jobs, but we can't tell the public how bad it is at all."

His whistleblowing efforts have garnered a response from the White House. However, instead of addressing Nelsen’s concerns, the agency has placed him on ‘40 hours of administrative leave,’ under the direction of Carolyn Black, the department manager.

As of Thursday, March 13th, at 11:18 AM, IRS Whistleblower David Nelsen’s access to the IRS network was officially removed.

This follows an exclusive interview with The Citizen Journalism Foundation, Nelsen shared his personal views on the current state of the IRS, expressing concerns about the outdated systems in place, highlighting how these systems' lack of integration has significantly hindered the efficiency of IRS employees. "We have very antiquated systems. They aren't integrated. We're basically handcuffed," Nelsen explained.

Nelsen emphasized during his interview that his comments were solely his personal opinions and did not represent the official position of the IRS. He cited the IRS Internal Revenue Manual (IRM), Section 11.1.3.3 (2), which states: “IRS employees may communicate with media officials orally, in writing, and online to express their views on matters of public concern without prior notification, consultation, or approval from the Office of Media Relations or any IRS supervisory authority.”

CJF reached out to Nelsen’s supervisor, Carolyn Black, IRS Chief of Media Relations Karen Connelly, and the White House Press Office for comment. Connelly returned James O’Keefe’s call, stating, “We can't comment about personnel actions,” and adding that it was “against the law” to disclose whether she was aware of Nelsen’s access being revoked, before abruptly hanging up.

Nelsen has since retained whistleblower attorney Mike Yoder, who is actively pursuing legal action. Yoder is engaging with Congress and the Office of Special Counsel to address what he argues is clear retaliation.
