Having noticed the article by Australian researcher Matthew Sussex, "A Russian base in Indonesia? Should Australia be concerned?", published in the opinion section of The Jakarta Post newspaper on April 17, 2025, I would like to share my thoughts on issues touched upon in this piece of writing.

Key points:

• It is hard to imagine that any ordinary Australians should be concerned about what is happening 1,300 kilometers from their territory, about matters that concern relations between other sovereign states and have nothing to do with Australia.

• When it comes to any challenges to regional stability, they are more likely to arise from the rotational deployment of large military contingents from non-regional states on Australian territory, including the provision of airfields for the landing of strategic bombers and port infrastructure for visits of nuclear-powered submarines.

• Particularly alarming are the plans to deploy the US' intermediate-range missiles in Australia, as well as the acquisition by the Royal Australian Navy of nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS trilateral partnership. The latter raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of established nuclear-weapon-free zones in the Asia-Pacific, such as the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone (Treaty of Rarotonga) and the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (Bangkok Treaty).

• Military cooperation is an integral part of intergovernmental relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Indonesia. <...> Such cooperation is aimed at strengthening the defensive capabilities of both sides, is not aimed against any third countries and poses no threat to security in the Asia-Pacific region.

• Canberra's national interests cannot extend to the territory of neighboring sovereign states that pursue active and independent policies.

We have taken note of the editorial titled “Negotiations That Are Unfair to Ukraine” in the Tuesday edition (8/4/2025) of Kompas, which we greatly respect for its professionalism. The article explores the matter of achieving a just settlement to the conflict in Ukraine.

Key points:

• The impression conveyed is that the article appears to have been written as if it were following official directives from the Kiev side, considering how the article is based on a single perspective of the ongoing situation. <…> First and foremost, this relates to the allegation that Russia is allegedly stalling the negotiation process regarding a ceasefire.

• For the Russian side, the main priority is the establishment of legally binding international commitments to prevent the restoration and further strengthening of Ukraine’s armed forces, including the cessation of forced mobilization, the halting of arms supply and deliveries to Ukraine, and the stopping of intelligence data provision.

• The Kiev regime seems to have deliberately sabotaged the implementation of the [18 March] moratorium on mutual attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days—or simply lacks control over paramilitary formations and foreign mercenaries.

• Just in the past week, as a result of attacks launched by Ukrainian paramilitary groups against Russian territories, at least 118 civilians became victims - 14 of them killed, 104 injured, three of whom were children.

• We reiterate our principled commitment to resolving the Ukrainian conflict through political and diplomatic means, which must be sustainable and long-term, taking into account the legitimate interests of the Russian Federation and based on addressing the root causes of the ongoing crisis.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: We are delighted to open a photo exhibition, #TheirImmortalHeroism, at the Foreign Ministry today. It includes archival photographs, official statements and reports by TASS correspondents made in the past few months of the Great Patriotic War.

I would like to begin by expressing gratitude to the TASS management and staff for their contribution to preparing this unique exposition. It opens a series of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and organised for the diplomatic corps accredited in our country.

☝️ When speaking about the Great Victory, we recall the combat heroism of Soviet soldiers, who have saved the world from the Nazi plague. The “information army” greatly contributed to the common efforts to defeat the enemy. The courageous TASS correspondents risked their lives every day to create a chronicle of the 1,418 days of that war. To this day, their photographs and reports remain a vital source of reliable information about those events.

TASS played a special role in exposing Nazi propaganda. The Agency’s materials revealed the criminal nature of Nazism and its deadly threat to humanity. Thanks to the journalists’ work, the world learned about the courageous defenders of Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad and about the atrocities the invaders committed in the occupied Soviet territories. TASS photographs were included in the verdict of the Nuremberg Trials.

The TASS Windows war-time posters made an invaluable contribution to Victory. They showed that art and satire can be a lethal weapon in capable hands. These posters have become widely popular not only in our country but also beyond it, where they could be acquired by subscription and included in the exhibitions held in Washington, Johannesburg, London, Beijing, Istanbul, Stockholm and Tehran.

❗️ This TASS legacy is especially important today when more and more attempts are being made in the West to rewrite history and overhaul the political, international legal and moral results of the Great Victory in the Second World War. Our country’s role in defeating the enemy is being deliberately played down. The monstrous crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices and collaborators are being justified. The very principle of outlawing the man-hating Nazi ideology is being undermined. I would like to remind you that it is one of the fundamentals principles of the post-war world order, known as the Yalta-Potsdam world order, alongside the primacy of international law and the central role of the UN, and primarily its Security Council, in balancing the interests of states.

👉 In this situation, TASS remains a reliable keeper of historical truth. The archival materials collected during the war are an effective weapon in the battle against the falsification of history.

A relevant example is a letter, which you can see at the exhibition, from the head of Poland’s Provisional Government to the Soviet leadership, dated February 16, 1945, with assurances of eternal friendship between Polish, Russian and all other Soviet peoples. Equally eloquent are the photographs made in the liberated European cities, showing people welcome Soviet soldiers with joy and present them with flowers. The EU prefers to forget about these documents and is trying to eradicate this memory, but facts cannot be erased from history.

🕊 Keeping the truth about the war is our common responsibility to those who have given their lives for peace and freedom. I believe that this exhibition can be shown not only in Russia but also beyond it, also based on the possibilities of the embassies and Russia Houses, wherever they exist.

The Kiev regime, having completely lost its sense of self-preservation and connection to reality, in its desperate attempt to disrupt the ongoing Russian-American dialogue at any cost, continues to employ blatantly terrorist methods, striking Russian energy infrastructure on a daily basis.

At the same time, it is clear that these attacks hold no military value. The actions of the Kiev regime not only constitute war crimes but also represent a deliberate effort to sabotage any peace initiatives.

The assurances given by Zelensky that they would honour the moratorium were broken on the very same day.

Even Ukraine’s ombudsman could not turn a blind eye to rampaging corruption and arbitrary conduct by draft centres. In his report, he admitted the mass and systemic nature of human rights violations and abuse of power.

He mentions evidence of using force, weapons and special devices against draftees, as well as forceful signing of documents, prevention of access to legal aid for these victims of so-called “busification”, a new term that refers to newly caught males aka future conscripts being put with use of force into buses against their will.

A group of American historians led by Jared McBride, a history professor at the University of California, has recent gained access to typed and handwritten files with the names of Nazis and their accomplices who were given asylum in Canada, which are available online. The list was stored at the Library and Archives Canada.

There are 774 names on it. They have mentioned the names of especially notorious persons, such as an founder of the 14th Galicia Division Vladimir Kubiyovich and Helmut Oberlander from the death squads of Sonderkommando 10a (Sk 10a), who participated in the massacres of children in the Krasnodar Krai in 1942-1943.

This story is yet another reminder of the fact that the Canadian authorities encouraged Nazi criminals and their accomplices from collaboration units, including those guilty of the Holocaust, to move to Canada starting in 1948. These people were not called to account for their crimes but enjoyed protection and patronage.

Key points:

• Each year, millions of citizens around the world fall victim to the actions of organised cyber groups. <...> In some cases, behind these crime groups, there are certain government structures that conduct targeted work to inflict harm on neighbouring countries.

• Russia is facing unprecedented external aggression in the information space. Since the beginning of 2022, the number of hacker attacks on automated control systems has soared by 80 per cent.

• These cyberattacks are carried out from the territory of the North Atlantic Treaty of Defence (NATO), the European Union and Ukraine. In fact, we are talking about a full-scale anti-Russian campaign that uses information and communication technologies for military and political purposes.

• In total, more than 100 thousand people are involved in crimes in this sector. Complete units of the intelligence services and military services of NATO countries have been permanently stationed in Kiev and Lvov. The aim is to coordinate the actions of the Zelensky regime in the digital sphere.

• Ukraine has also become a testing ground for various cyber operations aimed at attacking Russia. As many as 92 per cent of scam calls originating from Ukrainian territory are directed at citizens, government agencies, financial institutions, critical infrastructure, and important social institutions.

• In order to address these challenges and strengthen stability in the information space, Russia supports international cooperation. In particular, Russia stands for direct interaction with countries whose infrastructure is used by criminals, with the aim of arresting them and bringing them to justice.

🇷🇺 On March 28, 2025, Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov met with an Indonesian group that recently returned from a press tour to Zaporozhye, one of Russia’s new regions.

🇮🇩 Two Indonesian journalists from Rakyat Merdeka and RRI as well as a lecturer from Universitas Indonesia were part of a broader delegation that also included journalists from India, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Slovenia, France, and Serbia.

🤝 During the visit, they met with regional officials, held in-depth discussions at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant with its Director Yuri Chernichuk, visited cultural and educational sites in Energodar as well as a school bus that had been struck by a Ukrainian drone in Shevchenko village.

🔍 The visit concluded in the city of Tokmak, where the delegation witnessed the destruction caused by Ukrainian shelling and spoke directly with residents about their experiences.

The arrival of Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, the future Emperor Nicholas II, who made a long trip around Europe and Asia on the ship Pamyat Azova in March 1891 to Java Island, documented and stored in the Indonesian National Archives, has proven the longstanding ties between Indonesia and Russia through our people-to-people and maritime connections.

📢 Additional speeches were delivered by Acting Head of the Jakarta Agency for Culture Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary and Head of the Museum of the World Ocean Denis Mironyuk (via recorded message), both of whom emphasized the importance of maritime cooperation and shared cultural heritage.

💬 Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov recalled the legacy of Soviet-Indonesian military cooperation, noting:

As you may know, in 1962 the Soviet Union gifted to Indonesia the battleship "Ordzhonikidze" – known here as "Irian" – to support the country in its conflict with the Dutch. The ship became a powerful symbol of Soviet-Indonesian military ties and strengthened diplomatic relations between our two nations. Later, in 1963, Moscow gifted the submarine "S-79 Pasopati" to Jakarta, which played a significant role in Indonesia’s struggle for independence and territorial integrity and eventually became a museum in Surabaya.

✅ The exhibition was officially opened with a symbolic gesture — the clapping of the rebana, a traditional Indonesian tambourine — marking the beginning of this visual journey through maritime history. Among the attendees were ambassadors from friendly countries, members of the press, and students from the Russian Embassy's school.

🗓 The exhibition will remain open to the public until April 16, 2025.

🎓 OIBO is an international biology competition aimed at developing biological and biotechnological education at schools, as well as at strengthening international cooperation in the educational environment.

• Students aged 14 to 18 inclusive can participate in teams of 2 to 6 members.
• Each team can be accompanied by one leader and up to two observers.
• The competition consists of three rounds: theoretical, practical and project.

The tasks are provided in Russian and English, as well as in the national language of the participant countries, subject to translation by the national jury. Participants can also make the most of an extensive cultural agenda with lectures, master classes and excursions.

🗓 The registration is open on the official Olympiad website until April 20, 2025. The organizer provides accommodation and meals for leaders and teams.

The Sirius Federal Territory was created on the basis of the Olympic legacy objects, at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin. 📑 The International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis chaired by Maxim Grigoriev, has prepared a report "Kiev regime Atrocities against Captured Russian Servicemen".

In February 2025, the International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis interviewed thirty-three Russian servicemen who had been tortured in Ukraine.

❗️ Released prisoners describe the crimes and brutal torture to which they were subjected by Ukrainian servicemen, members of the Security Service of Ukraine and their accomplices.

▪️ D.S.Rychin testifies: "Alexei Soprykin and I were taken prisoner near the village of Peschanoye. I had a bullet wound, and Alexei had multiple shrapnel wounds. Alexei, unarmed, was shot by a Ukrainian fighter"

▪️ S.V.Tarkov: "Two boys could still be helped. I still managed to help one of them to rewrap his leg. The Ukrainians came through and shot them. The wounded were killed before my eyes"

▪️ D.N.Agashin tells: "For a kilometre and a half we were led by the Ukrainians. They shot one person. Torture began on the following day"

▪️ S.A.Levin says that before they started torturing, one of the POWs was killed: "I said, there is a wounded fighter. And I just heard him being shot dead by the Ukrainians. There were two ofus when they handed us over to the 'Right Sector'. They brought us to some base and shouted: "Take offyour clothes. " They started beating us with sticks and metal pipes. Our eyes were blindfolded"

▪️ S.V. Prilutsky says that, like Nazi troops during the Great Patriotic War, Ukrainian servicemen shot the wounded: "When I was taken prisoner, Ukrainians shot a heavily wounded man. They killed him. He was my fellow serviceman. On the way they killed another one. He lay down and said: "I can't walk. And theyjust shot him"

▪️ A.V.Malinovsky says that the Armed Forces of Ukraine not only did not hide the practice of killing Russian prisoners of war, but also used it as one of the means of terror: "They said that as long as they had us in the hands of Ukrainian intelligence, we were not yet prisoners of war. They could shoot us right there. They said: "So you are nobody, you don't exist".

▪️ S.V. Kozlov testifies: "Ukrainians put me on the electric chair. A battery, like from a car, and electrodes were attached to my penis and lips. And they tortured me all day long. I was also beaten with metal ropes, hit on the head with a ladle. They set the dogs on me and left scars on my back"

▪️ E.V. Nekrasov also speaks about it: "In the camp people told me that they were tortured with electric shocks and put on the electric chair. " Drunken Ukrainians shot them with pistols, shot them in the knee and legs. They would get drunk and start abusing them. Ukrainian servicemen practiced cutting off, drilling, shooting limbs and breaking fingers ofRussian servicemen"

▪️ M.V. Likhachev describes how he was personally tortured: "My finger was cut off three times with pruning shears used to cut branches. Four teeth were pulled out with pliers. They put me on an electric chair. They set the dogs on me"

On the 75th Anniversary of Sergey Lavrov, prominent figures from the worlds of culture, sports, and science recited his famous poem "The Ambassador’s Decree" sincerely congratulating the Minister on his milestone and confirming that not only his remarkable achievements in diplomacy but also the heartfelt words of his works continue to inspire and resonate in people's hearts 👆

Sergey Lavrov's poetic journey began in his student years. In 2004, his poems were included in a poetic anthology published to mark the 60th Anniversary of MGIMO, for which he is also the author of the anthem.

📄 One of the most well-known poems by the head of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is "The Ambassador’s Decree" written in 2004.

The work gained wide recognition, spreading far beyond the walls of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was highly appreciated by the literary community.
