Ukraine frees 277 defenders from russian captivity on the eve of Easter

Today, on the eve of the holy holiday of Easter, one of the largest prisoner exchanges took place. As a result of the negotiation process by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on behalf of the President of Ukraine, 277 Ukrainian Defenders were released from Russian captivity. 246 soldiers were returned as part of the prisoner exchange, another 31 people were released outside the exchange.

Among those released today are Defenders from the Mariupol garrison, National Guardsmen, military sailors, soldiers of the Territorial Defense, the State Special Transport Service, the Airborne Assault Troops, and the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Most of those who were returned are young people born after 2000. A female servicewoman who has been in captivity since May 2022 will see her relatives today.

268 of the released are privates and non-commissioned officers, and nine officers have also been returned. Our boys and girls defended Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, Kherson regions and the city of Mariupol from the enemy.

The current exchange is the fourth this year and the 63rd since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

This year alone, 596 Ukrainians have been returned home from russian captivity as part of exchanges, and 53 Defenders have been released outside of exchanges.

In total, 4552 Ukrainian citizens have been released as part of the negotiation process and exchanges since March 2022. An additional 529 people have been released from russian captivity outside of exchanges.

We express our gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in organizing the exchange. ЄWe also thank all the government agencies involved for their assistance and joint work.

The liberated defenders will receive all the necessary medical care. All those released will undergo a medical examination, receive treatment, be provided with everything they need for the first time, and will also receive all payments of financial support for the entire time of their captivity and a one-time material assistance. Ukraine provides rehabilitation and reintegration into society for the released after prolonged isolation in Russian captivity.

11.04.2025, at about 17:15, a missile strike was launched against the forward command post of the russian 30th motorized rifle regiment (military unit 72162), located in the settlement of Guevo, Sudzhansky district, Kursk region. The strike was carried out using HIMARS.

As a result of the strike:
• 7 killed (deputy regiment commander, communications platoon commander, 5 reconnaissance company servicemen);

The military counterintelligence of the Security Service, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a double agent of the russian federation in the Lviv region, who simultaneously worked for the FSB and russian military intelligence (better known as the GRU).

According to the case materials, the enemy accomplice turned out to be an instructor of the Yavoriv training ground. His task from the russian training ground was to prepare terrorist attacks against the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who, together with their units, were undergoing combat training at the local training center of the Defense Forces. It is documented that the agent received carte blanche from the curator to choose the method of eliminating the Ukrainian military. According to one of the scenarios, the traitor was to make a homemade explosive device and then secretly plant it in the headquarters or training building. The agent was also developing a variant of using his colleague in the dark, who was to bring a disguised explosive to the commanders' training location. Another method of murder that the mole considered was a rocket strike by the russians at the coordinates of the current concentration of Ukrainian defenders at the training ground.

The SSU military counterintelligence uncovered hostile intentions in advance, documented them, and detained the traitor while he was preparing proposals for his supervisor to eliminate him. Also, during the investigation, the traitor's contacts with the supervisor from the FSB were established. At his direction, the agent collected information about the number and specifics of units training at the Yavoriv training ground. During the searches, 3 phones with SIM cards were seized from the detainee, which he used to hide contacts with the occupiers.

Based on the evidence collected, the Security Service investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
