Ehsan Hamzehzadeh, a 17-year-old Kurdish high school student from Bukan, was arrested by Iranian security forces due to his participation in Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan.

According to reports by the human rights organization Hengaw, Ehsan, originally from the village of Qalawi and currently residing in the Mirabad district of Bukan, was arrested on Sunday, April 20, 2025, by agents of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence. He was subsequently taken to an undisclosed location.

A source close to the Hamzehzadeh family told Hengaw: “Ehsan is an 11th-grade student at Meraj High School in Bukan and was detained for attending Newroz ceremonies.”

The source further stated that the Ministry of Intelligence lured Ehsan into the public library of Bukan under false pretenses, and as he approached the building, several intelligence vehicles surrounded and arrested him.

At the time of this report, there is no confirmed information about the whereabouts or legal status of the 17-year-old student.

In a troubling sign of renewed terrorist activity, ISIS terrorists have carried out 66 attacks across areas under the control of the Autonomous Democratic Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) since the beginning of 2025, with the latest incidents targeting Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in Deir Ezzor and Hasakah provinces Western Kurdistan.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), these operations have resulted in the deaths of 23 individuals, including 13 SDF members and affiliated military personnel, 5 ISIS terrorists, and 5 civilians. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR):

"In a notable and unprecedented field movement, areas east of Ain Issa and along the M4 highway up to the al-Tarwaziyah region in the Raqqa countryside witnessed a joint patrol involving a delegation from the International Coalition, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and representatives from the Damascus government.

According to sources, the patrol covered frontline positions amid tight security measures and heavy deployment of forces.

This patrol comes within the framework of security coordination and field understandings regarding a highly sensitive area due to its proximity to frontlines and its strategic location on the M4 highway.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had previously noted unusual activity amid a cautious ceasefire between the SDF and Turkey. American helicopters took off from the al-Omar oil field base—the largest Coalition base in eastern Deir ez-Zor—heading toward the Tishrin Dam east of Manbij.

Reports indicate this aerial movement coincided with a planned meeting between a delegation from the Damascus government and another from the SDF, under U.S. auspices, as part of detailed field arrangements for managing the Tishrin Dam.

Recently, the Autonomous Administration and the Damascus government reached an agreement to maintain the current dam management team and to remove factions of the “Syrian National Army” from the area.

The agreement also includes the formation of joint SDF-Syrian Army forces to ensure the dam’s security.

Earlier, a convoy from the International Coalition arrived near the Tishrin Dam, accompanied by civilian delegations from both the Damascus government and the Autonomous Administration, under heavy protection by special SDF units, while maintenance continues at vital facilities within the dam."

According to some local sources, a meeting allegedly took place yesterday between the SDF and Turkish forces near Tishreen Dam.

According to the sources, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire in exchange for Turkish recognition of the SDF.

Daesh terrorist cells continue their persistent attempts to destabilize the security and stability of North and East Syria, seeking to exploit the ongoing chaos in the country.

In this context, one of the terrorist cells targeted one of our military points in the town of *al-Tayyana* in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor on Thursday with an RPG, causing material damage. The attackers also targeted a military vehicle that arrived to support the point with another RPG, but no damage resulted from the second strike.

These cells aim to disrupt the region’s stability and revive the group by launching attacks on our forces, civilians, and civil institutions. However, our forces affirm their commitment to continuing the fight against the terrorist organization under all conditions, and operations will persist until it is completely eradicated."

Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlu, a Kurdish political prisoner on death row for the charge of armed rebellion, was transferred to the pre-execution cells of Urmia Central Prison. His last family visit took place just a few hours ago.

His lawyer: "In 2017, eight border guards were killed in a village in West Azerbaijan Province. In 2022, Hamid was arrested at his home in his own village on charges of smuggling goods. Initially, he was charged with smuggling, but later he was accused of involvement in that attack. Hamid spent 12 months in the solitary confinement cells in Urmia, without access to a solicitor, phone, or his family. Hamid is completely illiterate. The interrogation documents are entirely in the handwriting of the interrogator, and he merely signed them. In his first appearance before the investigator, he denied the charges. The armed clash reportedly occurred around 3 am, but he stated that by 11 am that same day, he had already crossed the border with his family into Turkey."

SOHR:

International Coalition is preparing to establish a base at Tishreen Dam.

Activists with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the "International Coalition" has begun transporting military and logistical equipment from the Al-Omar and Conoco oil fields, the coalition's largest bases in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, in several batches, toward its military base in the Al-Shaddadi area, south of Hasakah.

According to the information, the main forces will remain at the two bases until instructions come to withdraw.

The transfers were accompanied by a temporary closure of the coalition's points within the aforementioned fields, to evacuate the smaller points that lacked air protection and reinforce the larger points.

New York Times:

Two senior U.S. officials announced that the U.S. military will shut down three of its eight small operational bases in the northeastern part of Syria, reducing its troop presence from 2,000 to about 1,400 soldiers.

These bases are known as the "Green Village" and "Euphrates," along with a third, much smaller base.

The officials said that after 60 days, U.S. commanders will assess the possibility of further reductions.

According to one of the officials, the commanders have recommended keeping at least 500 U.S. troops in Syria.

However, President Trump has expressed deep skepticism about keeping any U.S. forces in the country.

Today, ENKS spokesperson Feysel Yusif stated that no date has been set for the conference.
