Dear colleagues and friends! We invite you to join the round table discussion!

📊 Transform Your Data into Stunning Visuals with RAWGraphs! Here’s How…

Meet RAWGraphs—a free, open-source tool that bridges the gap between basic Excel graphs and complex coding. Perfect for researchers who want to create publication-ready visuals without writing a single line of code!

🌟 Why RAWGraphs?
Pros: ✅ No Coding Needed: Drag-and-drop interface for effortless visualization. ✅ Wide Chart Variety: Sankey diagrams, alluvial plots, scatter plots, hex bins, and more. ✅ Vector Exports: Download visuals as SVG/PNG for crisp, scalable figures. ✅ Privacy-Friendly: Data stays on your device—no uploads to external servers. ✅ Customization: Adjust colors, labels, and layouts to match journal guidelines.
Cons: ⚠️ Limited Data Size: Best for small to medium datasets (under 10,000 rows). ⚠️ Basic Features: Lacks advanced stats or dynamic interactivity (e.g., Tableau/Power BI). ⚠️ Steep Learning Curve: Some chart types require careful data formatting.

📋 Step-by-Step Guide to Boosting Your Visuals
1. Prepare Your Data
• Format your data as a CSV/Excel file with clear headers (e.g., "Gene," "Expression Level," "Group").
• Remove merged cells or non-numeric characters in numeric columns.

2. Open RAWGraphs
• Go to https://rawgraphs.io (no sign-up required!).

3. Upload Your Data
• Click Load Data and upload your file.
• Confirm data types (e.g., numbers vs. categories) in the preview.

4. Choose a Chart Type
• Select a visualization style from the dropdown (e.g., Alluvial Diagram for flow analysis, Scatterplot for correlations).
• Pro Tip: Use Beeswarm plots for distribution comparisons or Density Maps for spatial data.

5. Map Data to Visual Elements
• Drag columns from your dataset to chart dimensions:
◦ X/Y Axis: Assign numeric variables.
◦ Color/Size: Highlight categories or values.
◦ Labels: Add text annotations.
• Example: For a Sankey Diagram, map "Source" and "Target" columns to show relationships.

6. Customize Your Chart
• Tweak colors, fonts, and spacing under Appearance.
• Use Advanced Settings to adjust margins, axes, or gridlines.
• Pro Tip: Stick to colorblind-friendly palettes (e.g., Viridis) for inclusivity.

7. Export and Refine
• Click Export to download as SVG (edit in Inkscape/Illustrator) or PNG (for quick use).
• For journals, use SVG to resize without quality loss.

🔍 Use Cases for Researchers
• Compare Groups: Beeswarm plots to show gene expression across conditions.
• Flow Analysis: Sankey/alluvial diagrams for patient cohort tracking or metabolic pathways.
• Multivariate Data: Scatterplots with color/size encoding for high-dimensional data.

🚀 Pro Tips for Maximum Impact
• Combine Tools: Export SVG to Inkscape for adding annotations or equations.
• Repurpose Templates: Save chart configurations for future datasets.
• Keep It Simple: Avoid clutter—highlight only key trends.

💡 Why It Matters
RAWGraphs helps you communicate complex data intuitively, making your findings accessible to reviewers and readers. Plus, it’s free and requires no software installs!

📢 Ready to Visualize Like a Pro? Test RAWGraphs with your latest dataset and share your opinion in the comments.

🚀Dear colleagues and friends!

Today post-publication peer reviewing is in focus!

As part of our ongoing commitment to scientific rigor and transparency, I want to highlight PubPeer—a platform reshaping how we engage with published research. Here’s why it matters our scientific and academic community:

🔍 What is PubPeer?
PubPeer (https://pubpeer.com) is an independent platform where researchers worldwide can critique and discuss already published scientific papers.
Think of it as a continuous, crowdsourced peer review process that extends beyond traditional journal workflows.

🌟 Why Should We Care?
1️⃣ Catching Oversights: Even rigorous pre-publication peer review can miss errors. PubPeer’s community has flagged critical issues—from image duplications to statistical flaws—leading to corrections and retractions in high-profile cases (e.g., the Lancethydroxychloroquine study). 2️⃣ Transparency: PubPeer discussions are public, fostering accountability and open dialogue. Authors can respond directly, clarifying concerns or acknowledging mistakes. 3️⃣ Global Collaboration: Researchers from diverse fields and regions contribute insights, enriching scientific discourse.

💡 How You Can Engage
• Authors: Monitor PubPeer for discussions about your work. Use feedback to improve future submissions or issue corrections if needed.
• Reviewers & Readers: Participate respectfully! Cite evidence (e.g., ImageJ analyses, statistical rechecks) to strengthen critiques.
• Stay Informed: You can the PubPeer browser extension to see discussions while browsing literature.

⚖️ Addressing Concerns
• Anonymity: PubPeer allows anonymous comments to protect whistleblowers, but moderation ensures critiques remain evidence-based.
• Ethics: Personal attacks or unsubstantiated claims violate PubPeer’s guidelines—focus on the work, not the author.

🌐 The Bigger Picture
PubPeer isn’t a replacement for peer review—it’s a complement. By embracing post-publication scrutiny, we advance science’s self-correcting nature and build trust in our collective work.

🚀 Another UK University Parts Ways with Elsevier: A Shift Towards Open Access?

Breaking news in academic publishing! 📢 A UK university has joined the growing list of institutions canceling their "Big Deal" subscription with Elsevier, one of the largest academic publishers.
This move signals a continued push toward open access (OA) and sustainable scholarly communication.
Why is this happening?
• Cost Concerns: Traditional subscription models are increasingly seen as unsustainable, with rising fees straining library budgets.
• Open Access Priorities: Universities are prioritizing models that make research freely available, aligning with global OA mandates (like Plan S).
• Supporting Alternatives: Institutions are investing in institutional repositories, preprint platforms, and transformative OA agreements.
What does this mean for researchers? While access to some paywalled Elsevier journals may be affected, the shift encourages: ✅ Publishing in OA venues. ✅ Using green OA (self-archiving preprints/postprints). ✅ Exploring consortia-backed "Read and Publish" deals.
Broader Implications This decision reflects a wider trend in the UK and Europe, where universities are renegotiating or exiting costly publisher agreements. Could this spark a domino effect, accelerating the transition to a fully OA ecosystem?
