Scientific research requires a lot of money. Some people believe that such work is a waste of public funds. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that scientific research is a waste of public funds since it demands a significant amount of money. I disagree with this view since progress in nearly any field is often associated with scientific efforts. Thus, for the development of any country, scientific research is crucial.

Conducting science is often aimed at improving human life. Thanks to thousands of years of research, people discovered electricity, antibiotics, and vaccines, just to name a few essential discoveries. Antibiotics and vaccines are a reason why average life expectancy is over 70 years now, a number that was unimaginable for many people in the past. Electricity, on the other hand, powers the world and makes life more convenient than ever before. These are just some ways science changed human life, which means spending on science is normally a great pursuit.

Awareness is another key reason why investing in science should be supported. As a curious species, we managed to step foot on the moon and understand how our planet functions. Discoveries of gravity, for instance, shaped our perception of life and helped us develop as a species. In other words, science is education, making people aware of who they are and what they need to understand further. This hunger for knowledge should be applauded instead of being criticized based on monetary spending. It is also important to note that countries that spend more money on science usually offer a better quality of life.

In conclusion, scientific research is an effort worth spending billions on. Progress in various scientific fields helps countries improve the lives of their citizens and satisfy human curiosity.
