Nowadays, most countries can improve the standard of living through economic development, but some social values are lost as a result. Do you think the advantages of this phenomenon outweigh the disadvantages?

These days, the majority of countries prioritize improving the standard of living through economic progress, but it has been noticed that social values can be lost in this process. Although a country’s social fabric can be affected when the economy is a priority, I believe the advantages of focusing on economic advancement prevail.

When a country emphasizes economic growth, the traditional way of life may be neglected. This means the government improves its business relationships with other countries and allows the country to globalize. This process includes welcoming foreign companies and guaranteeing the freedom of choice for locals. In this process, people are free to listen to any music they want or watch whatever movies they wish, making the locals follow similar tendencies as those living abroad. Thus, the most obvious consequence of focusing on economic growth is changing the social fabric of a country to a certain extent.

Nevertheless, economic growth is far more important in the world where inflation and unemployment ruin people’s lives. In the majority of countries, there is either an active economic recession or one that is about to take place. Therefore, blaming the country for focusing on improving the quality of life is illogical. This is why most countries embrace globalization, with my native Uzbekistan not being an exception. In the last 10 years, we had more foreign businesses enter the country and create numerous jobs for the locals.

Not focusing on economic growth can lead to tragic consequences. When the country suffers from poverty or income inequality, it normally suffers from high crime rates, too. Illiteracy can become an issue as well, meaning many people are uneducated. To avoid these problems, countries have to focus on economic development - a decision that supports the welfare of locals in many ways. This can help people lead healthy lives and purchase any goods and services they need for a great life.

In conclusion, it is true that a country’s culture can be changed in some ways when the economy is a priority, but it seems to be an inevitable change. The benefits of emphasis on the economy outweigh all the drawbacks since a better economy often means an increase in the number of richer and happier people.
