A powerful car explosion in Balashikha, Moscow Region, killed Russian Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, according to Russian media reports. Moskalik served as the deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

The blast reportedly occurred at 10:40 local time as the general was walking past a parked car near his residence. The explosion was so strong that it threw him several meters from the vehicle.
